Cha Seung Won Drops Out of Athena Filming in Japan

Cha Seung Won has dropped out of Athena’s overseas shoot for Japan due to poor health, and his role in the drama may be drastically reduced overall because of either his long-term health concerns or the fact that writing him out of the Japan portion means his entire role needs to be reduced so the plot makes sense.

That noise you hear? It’s me screaming from sadness (at his illness, said to be sepsis, and oh my lord is that a terrible infection – EDIT: just heard it “may” be sepsis, and is more likely a very bad case of food poisoning, and that they are shooting around him and if he recovers soon nothing will change with respect to his role), and from frustration (at his role in Athena being drastically reduced). There is nothing to be done, and my only wish is for a speedy and full recovery for Cha Seung Won.

I’m not sure how the story can get re-written, since pretty much he’s the other male lead. Jung Woo Sung may be playing the protagonist, but Cha Seung Won was playing equal parts the antagonist. At this time, there is no further information on either his health or the drama re-write, so I’ll update with news as it drops.

Sorry to be the bearer of awful news, especially on the heels of giving everyone a brand spanking awesome long trailer for Athena.

  • Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo please let this be a joke!!! I wanted to watch Athena because of him and (Choi Siwon). I haven't seen any of Jung Woo Sung' dramas or movies or at least I don't have a lasting memory of him...but I fell so deep for Cha Seung Won after watching City Hall ( a drama that will have a soft spot forever in my heart) and I was sooo looking forward to seeing him acting in a drama again!
If this is indeed true I do wish him a speedy recovery!!!

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Seriously, that is so beyond awful. Athena was my most anticipated drama of 2010, in part because of him, but in general rewrites this late in the game (and to such an integral part of the story) are bad bad bad outside of my love for CSW.

    Oh God.

Also, sepsis - yikes! That's one nasty nasty illness. I hope he gets better pronto.

  • @ everyone - I edited the post, just heard it may be a very bad case of food poisoning. Let's keep our fingers-crossed that our Jo Gookie recovers quickly and has no lasting effects from whatever he is suffering from!

  • Ockoala, gosh I'm happy that I returned to your site to see if they may be some new post there and luckily I wanted to see the other comments on this post here. I really hope Jo Gookie recovers fast from hopefully only food poisoning.

  • He is like the only reason why I was going to check this out. I hope him speedy recovery and hope his role doesn't get reduced.
