Are you ready for epic, folks? We’re talking feel good story of a nation rebuilding after a war, resilient and cute dogs, a snowy harsh environment, bromance up the wazoo, and did I forget to mention KimuTaku? Next week sees the premiere of Nankyoku Tairiku (The Antarctic Mainland) on October 16th, the drama being both the 60th anniversary production from TBS and Kimura Takuya‘s one dorama of the year. Below is the latest teaser trailer, which continues to look all sorts of awesome and realistic, and a 14-minute showcase video presenting snippets from the drama and a behind-the-scenes look at the lavish re-creation of 1950s Japan plus the cast filming for two months in the harshest North of Hokkaido (the stand-in for Antarctica). Imma so watching this baby!
Teaser for Nankyoku no Tairiku:
Presentation Video for Nankyoku no Tairiku:
I wish I could translate everything but it’s just too long and I’m just too lazy. For the most part, the cast discussed what an honor to was to film a drama based on the true story of the first Japanese scientific expedition to the South Pole, and how challenging it was even to film the drama in Hokkaido. The drama really was about a time when Japan was rebuilding after losing World War II, and needed something to unite the country and buoy the people’s spirits. The expedition became a source of national pride for the country, and an honor for the men participating in it. Going up against NT will be Kim Tae Hee and Nishijima Hidetoshi‘s Boku to Star no 99 Nichi, which premieres a week after NT on October 23, 2011. I”m so planning to watch both and see where it goes from there.

Definitely looking forward to watching this a lot. Thank you Ms. Koala for keeping us informed. Kimutaku - I can't wait. :)
KimuTaku! Woofies!
Woofies! KimuTaku!
Wild huskies couldn't drag me away from this one. I was expecting plenty of canine cuteness and sentimentality, but my goodness this looks Epic.
I'm such a fan of KimuTaku ever since I watched him in change. Such a
passionate & charismatic actor. I wish I could visit Japan anytime soon!
No disrespect to KTH but if I had to choose between her rom com and this, this would definitely win. KTH has star power in Japan but this drama just looks to epic to miss. And it's KimuTaku!
woo....I think I saw Sakai Masato in there as well! Cool...J drama is getting boring last season. This one seems can look forward to ^^
If you mean the summer line-up, it was the total opposite for me. I thought last season was good. I didn't watch J-dramas for almost a year until this summer.
On a different note, this looks more epic than Karei naru Ichizoku. Can't wait to watch! TBS has been showing good dramas lately.
Kimutaku and puppies. I'm in.
im a new kimutaku fan...and have slowly been going through his body of work, love seeing him in his old projects and can not wait for this!
I'll watch this, normally wouldn't go for these types but this one really seems like a legit production that I shouldn't overlook. And wow that's some intense weather
I hope it's not too sad though. I don't want to cry~ :D
Kimutaku and cute dogs? And a bromance to top it all off? You can't go wrong with any of that. *g* I'm SO watching this!
On the other hand, I know someone who works at South Pole so I'll probably be a picky watcher and/or over-analyze the drama/all the details Ah well, whatever. KIMUTAKU! PUPPIES! *___*
hahaha. I didn't mean to use italics. I wanted the font to be smaller. HTML/brain fail! LOL
Thanks for reminding me of this dorama. Kimutaku, puppies, Yusuke and masato? All my fav are in:D As it happens, I'll be in Japan with my sister's family in Kobe on 16th. Now, I'm looking forward to watching it with them.
