NHK Releases Trailers for the 2012 Taiga Taira no Kiyomori

The official poster for Taira no Kiyomori is pretty, isn’t it? Very striking and a great visual image of Matsuyama Kenichi as the titular character. A month away from it’s premiere date, the upcoming 2012 Taiga has finally released it’s trailers. The tagline for the dorama reads: The Hegemon of the Seas, the King of the Warriors. A great looking trailer of course cannot guarantee a good end product, but so far I like what I’ve seen. It all comes down to lead Matsuyama Kenichi being just too awesome for words, exuding this gritty magnetic connection with the camera. I’m now understanding why he’s likely a perfect casting choice, because Kiyomori appears to be this period oddity amongst his clansmen, and he ventures out to conquer the seas before returning to set up the first Japanese Bakufu. I’m definitely checking this out.

Don’t these two hotties look yummy? Fujiki Naohito plays a famous poet in the Imperial government and is a friend and ally to Kiyomori. NHK is ridiculously strict with it’s copyrighted works, especially with it’s Taigas, so it’s not available on Youtube and I can’t embed the trailers from other streaming sites. Click on the link to watch the kickass trailers. You won’t regret it.

Click here to watch the lead of 2011’s Taiga Gou, the lovely and talented but ultimately miscast Ueno Juri, in the traditional baton passing ceremony where the lead of the current Taiga presents a ceremonial gift to the lead of next year’s Taiga along with some words of advice. As an annual tradition, the two leads exchanged gifts originating from the regions where their respective Taiga are set. Juri brought Echizen crab from Fukui prefecture for Kenichi, who returned the sentiment by giving her Kumano brushes from Hiroshima.

  • Looks awesome, I didn't watch Gou or Ryomaden but I loved Atsuhime. Matsuken is a perfect choice and the supporting cast is awesome, I just hope Fukada Kyoko is good (she can act but she tends to overact and get typecast in annoying roles)
I agree Juri is super talented but miscast as Gou, she received so much criticism that it must have been a blow for NHK and what's surprising it had the same team as Atsuhime had and yet Atsuhime was a huge hit.

  • usually i stay away from taiga dramas because they are quite lengthy and my knowledge of japanese feudal history is quite pitiful so much so that I sometimes cannot appreciate the historical context of the story. But the cast this time is what really attracts me to watch this show. Matsumoto Kenichi, mainly a film actor, hardly or has never been on a tv drama and this would be the first time that he is doing it.I've watched all his films. And then there is Fujiki Naohito. The female leads are also quite interesting.

  • it could be the lighting, but Fujiki looks rather pale in that picture.

    btw, it's Matsuyama, not Matsumoto.

  • u're right about how strict they are about the copyright for this Taiga. all videos about them has been removed from my youtube channel :(
im a fan of matsuyama kenichi by the way :)
    thanks for this article.. :)

    • Damn it!!! I've been in a sweaty days just to find some Youtube videos of this newest NHK Taiga drama. But then, NHK doesn't allowed me too~!!! :/ Oh thank you for clarifying the issue. :) Anyway, congrats to the casts and Matsuken for portraying their respective roles. Wish to see you guys once again soon~!!!

  • Definitely consider that that you said. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the net the easiest thing to take note of. I say to you, I certainly get irked even as people think about worries that they plainly do not recognise about. You managed to hit the nail upon the highest and defined out the entire thing with no need side-effects , folks can take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thanks
