Alice Ke Discusses Poetry and Photography for Marie Claire Taiwan

Before I watched Office Girls, I was one of the many Roy Qiu fans all aflutter that his upcoming leading lady Alice Ke seemed……bland. If he was a five course meal, I worried she’d be like white toast. But then OG started, and against all my preconceived notions of Alice as Ethan Ruan‘s forgettable dead girlfriend in My Queen, she completely won me over. She is like Ariel Lin, able to rein in her performance to bordering on understated and just sell the character without falling into a caricature of sorts.

Alice’s character Xing Ren in OG was so reactive and ordinary that she didn’t stand out, but in the world of overacting TW-actresses who sell the cute and play up their feminine charms, Alice is a breath of fresh air. I feel better just knowing she’s around now that so many other TW-actresses are gradually phasing out their drama roles for a movie career. For the May issue of Marie Claire Taiwan, Alice drops a lovely pictorial and films a TV spot for the magazine discussing her recently released poetry and photography book. As for her upcoming projects, word on the street is that Alice is coming back to a daily TW-drama being prepped by SETTV. I can’t wait!

  • She's so talented! Her beauty is the type that radiates from within, to be slowly discovered.

    Alice Ke fighting!

  • way better than the world of overacting TW-actresses who sell the cute and play up their feminine charms. wish she never change

  • Your comment about TW actresses slowly graduating to movie career (and migrating north for bigger paycheck) is spot on! I wonder if you'd do another article on the current crop of TW actors and actresses like you did a while back. It was interesting to see what's changed over the course of time and look out for the new talents.

That said, I think that TW films are on the rise, even poised to overlap HK cinema's quality (which have declined significantly as compared to the Golden days of the 80s-90s).

    • I guess there's some great TW films but i still think that HK films have the upper hand even though it's declining slowly. Actresses and actors graduating from drama to movies is quite a common situation whether it's Taiwanese or Koreans and i'm sad because i'm such a drama addict. I hope one day i can see Won Bin back to small screen T__T since now JDG is back to small screen.

      • That's what I said. TW cinema is on the way up while HK's is eroding.

I guess it does make sense in business POV though, since movie pays comparatively higher, takes less time to shoot and definitely is more prestigious. Still sad though, I also miss WB on small screen!
