Upcoming SBS drama The Secret Lovers (the drama adaptation of 7th Level Civil Servant) has been thrown into uncertainty with news that both leading men candidates Lee Dong Gun and Kim Nam Gil have turned down the project. Luckily for the network, it has another drama already cast and slated to start production in August, which might be perfect for taking over the Fall timeslot originally reserved for TSL. Yawang, or Queen of Ambition, is the third project from screenwriter Park In Kwon that follows his tried and true subject matter as it delves into the ambition, desire, and betrayal of a woman desiring to climb to the very pinnacle. The confirmed leads are Su Ae and Kwon Sang Woo, both of whom were eager to take on this project.
For Kwon Sang Woo, he worked on writer Park’s previous drama Daemul and this time he plays a man who will sacrifice everything to help the woman he loves become the First Lady of Korea. Su Ae is the titular Queen of Ambition, and I’m eager to see her dig into a dark role. Writer Park’s first major drama was the ratings blockbuster War of Money with Park Shin Yang and Park Jin Hee. I tried watching it and hated it so badly I was thisclose to taking the DVD set outside and hammering it into pieces. I’ve heard good things about Daemul but it sorta flew under my radar. For now, QoA is starting to finalize the rest of the cast and will likely get an airing slot shortly.

oh man kim nam gil rejected it? im so anxious for his drama comeback!!
I watched Deamul and was OK for me, KSW was good, man who gave everything and didn't expect much.
I loved Daemul, so I'm on board. I thought you had mistakenly put the synopsis for that up to describe Queen of Ambition. Daemul: man who will sacrifice everything to help the woman he loves become the President of Korea. Hmm... I guess writer Park likes the Blue House.
Though I'm seeing major angst ahead if she's first lady. Who's the president?
"time he plays a man who will sacrifice everything to help the woman he loves become the First Lady of Korea"
Again?! That was the plot of Daemul. Are they now going for "Daemul: Electric Boogaloo edition" or something?
I've heard that WoM gets good after a few rocky episodes but I never felt interested enough to check it out. Daemul was solid if not obsession-inspiring.
I dislike Su Ae intensely (I know, I know, I am about to be stoned, but I've disliked her in every drama I've ever seen her in - 9E2O, Emperor of the Sea, Athena - I think she has dead eyes and emotes like a blank wall) and, while I like KSW, he's been in too many questionable projects (Cinderella Man alone is evidence of appalling taste in projects and don't get me started on so-bad-it's-good Bad Love) for me to be excited about something just because he's in it. So I am firmly on the fence with this one.
omg!! i thought i was the only one who despise Su Ae.. like i agree on everything u said abt her..dead eyes and all .. i think the only project i like her waqs her latest with kim rae won.. because she was supposed to be this stong personality .. ill girl= dead eyes and blank expressions...but personally on a fanbase level.. i just DON'T like her..
though i love my Sang Woo.. he has the power to make me bawl out till my eyes are swollen.. n sooo I'll defo look up the fist few episodes for his sake!!
I don't get Su Ae either. Her acting is fine but her eyes are expressionless. She'll do a blind character exceptionally well.
Thanks for this news.
Queen of Ambition sounds like the title of five or six other shows.
Not sure how I feel about Su Ae, I guess that is her thing.
She plays difficult personalities and has to make them sympathetic to the audience. She doesn't have a natural warmth and coziness like my favorite Daemul, Go Hyung Jung.
Why is KSW eager to do this again, again?
KSA is playing the "difficult" woman with aplomb right now in IDID, but it sure isn't natural for her. I haven't seen a peek of cuteness when it isn't supposed to be there, so I applaud her performance.
"Queen of Ambition sounds like the title of five or six other shows."
Too true, Jomo! So the question remains, which is stronger:
The Queen vs Flames of Ambition?
:D
Soo Ae number one actress in korea.
most beautiful and natural
no one like her
her face so sweet
all men around the world will sacrifice everything for her because she is so lovely
@Sun, really? but my husband said she's not beautiful like any other Korean actresses.
im A guy and i find Su Ae the most beautiful actress her skin is sooo pure i really love her eyes ..and how she act she is just a Queen ..people who say she is ugly they are just bloody jealous people ..
