Sato Takeru Graces the Pages of Korean News and Magazines for Rurouni Kenshin

I hope the Rurouni Kenshin movie sequel starts filming soon because I’m already chomping at the bit to get deeper into the story. As much as I loved the movie adaptation, narratively there were deeper motivations and conflicts that were just skimmed over due to running time that are much more fleshed out in the manga. I hope the sequel takes the time to explain things better and do so with a longer running time, because I’m sure viewers would have the patience to sit through this movie even if it was closer to 3 hours in length rather than two. It’s so worth it, yes? Plus we get to spend more time with Kenshin! As much as everyone is ragging on Takei Emi as Kaoru, she really isn’t that great of a character to begin with. She is right for Kenshin at that time in his life, after he’s renounced his assassin calling and taken up being a wandering swordsman, but she is too much of a Mary Sue for my tastes. I hope the upcoming movie casts the right leading lady for Tomoe, because hot damn I shipped Kenshin and Tomoe to its angsty end. As Himura Kenshin, Sato Takeru couldn’t have found a better role to breakout. Kenshin truly is one of the most iconic shonen manga heros to grace the paces in the last few decades. To promote the movie, Takeru was in Korea back in October 2012 to attend the Busan International Film Festival. While he was in Korea, he did plenty of interview and magazine spreads that I’ve collected to share with folks who can’t get enough of his unique onscreen presence. He’s not quite a method actor, but he always sinks into a role so completely I disconnect with his real life quirky J-boy persona. Spending more time with J-actors is also a refreshing palate cleanser from the increasing uniformity of Korean actor looks since the J-actors are across-the-board different in looks and attitude from each other.
