Wahhhh, my baby Lee Seung Gi is back! And baby looks adorable! Aish, I’m going to be even more of a goner once he dons sageuk garb and unleashes his half man-half beast side in the upcoming fantasy period drama Gu Family Book (or The Book of the House of Gu). The drama is scheduled to premiere in early April on MBC Mon-Tues after the end of Horse Doctor, which means MBC is really on a sageuk roll for that time slot. The cast held its script reading session recently and we see the leads and even some high-profile cameos there. Seung Gi’s co-star is the idol-actress Suzy, who is making her sageuk debut in a big way as the lead rather than a secondary character to cut her teeth on first. That does worry me (a lot), but I like Suzy enough on her onscreen charm that even if she’s shaky with the sageuk diction and acting I think I can bear it. Lee Yeon Hee and Choi Jin Hyuk are guest-starring as the parents of Lee Seung Gi’s character, who was born from a high-class lady-turned gisaeng and an immortal deity. Talk about a romance that is totally doomed to end in heartache from the get go. He discovers his true parentage and vows to become fully human and embarks on this quest. Apparently he has super powers, in that when he gets angry he does the K-drama version of Hulk out or have super strength. Suzy’s character is described as a very enterprising young swordswoman and instructor at a martial arts studio. Ooooog, they can totally have knock-down, drag-out fights when they get angry at each other. Lee Sung Jae has been cast as the big bad, and the two second leads are Yoo Yoon Seok and Han Chae Ah. Forever lovely Jung Hye Young also joins the cast playing the head of a gisaeng house. Love how fabulous she’s going to look in this drama. It’s been ages since I’ve loved a sageuk completely (Arang and the Magistrate was awesome for the first half, and similar The Moon Embraces the Sun also had the same trajectory) and I really need some slow burn and gorgeousness to fill that void. Gu Family Book, don’t you dare let me down!

Dear ockoala, can you confirm that Han Chae Ah is the second lead becoz i heard lee bo yi is 2nd female lead and his first love ...i think Han Chae Ah was also not present at the script reading and ther areno concrete article on her casting officially ...just one point lee yeon hee is just doing a cameo ....it said that escapes and take shelter as a gisaeng under Jung Hye Young playing the head of a gisaeng house....if she stays alive it will be interesting she will also plays the older version of lee seung gi mother as she is younger than him sdo i am guessing that she dies or if she stays alive someone will replace her in the older version of lee seung gi's mother after he grows up or she is willing to play it.....plz do reply........

I'm so excited. I haven't been able to get into any dramas since Cheongdamdong Alice ended. I'm still watching 7th Grade Civil Servant, but I'm not addicted to it haha. Yay Lee Seung Gi's back. I still think Suzy is a very quick learner and will learn to improve her acting, especially since I think Lee Seung Gi's great, he'll be able to help her improve. Can the Horse Doctor be over sooner? :D

I'm distracted by his cute cheeks.... I'm glad he didn't lose a lot of weight for this role. But yes, the drama sounds fun. Seunggi and Suzy do actually look like they would work and their interaction seems like they have good chemistry already. Their ages don't look that different. From what I've read of the summary I'm not sure the loveline is going to be the main focus of the story so I hope she won't feel that much pressure. Seunggi vs. the big evil guy who caused everything and Seunggi vs. hot daddy and his whole journey sounds like the main plot with a side of bickering and falling in love.
reallylooking forward to "gu family book"......it's a visually staggering cast with with lee seung gi ,Choi Jin Hyuk,bae suzy,lee yeon hee,Lee Yoo Bi......lee seung gi was specatular in TK2H .....The storyline is refreshing yet compelling..... it's the first time in korean dramaland that a male lead is playing half-human half-beast charecter oppposed to females who generally plays as gumiho and horror or beastly charecters.....add to that director pd's is one of the top notch director pd's currently with secret garden, gentleman's dignity etc. but yes it is his first historical saeguk peice but still i have high hopes on him.....looking forward to chemistry betwwen lee seung gi and suzy..... to be honest suzy still a rokie actor to me and i was hoping for someone else to be the leading lady but she is pretty and talented and i guess everbody deserves a fair chance and see can definitely improve specially with lee seung gi around and give her best performance in this drama ......hoping the drama to "DAEBAK"

I was just watching some choice scenes from TK2H last night and I'm amazed at how different he looked in TK2H, thinner and much more manly, compared to the pictures above.
Goes to show he can be really versatile to suit the role.
