How does one even begin to critique King Flower? I definitely need to wait until it ends with episode 21, but really it’ll either be a hot mess with a satisfying ending or a hot mess with the worst ending in dramaland. Either way – hot mess that I can’t stop watching. Is that good or bad? Plenty of quality dramas rarely hook a viewer’s interest but a drama can be qualitatively all over the place and still hold my heart hostage. This drama starts with Da Hua but is all about Terry, so much so that poor Da Hua’s character is being asked to balance two guys and ends up with egg all over her face because no viewer is willing to accept her admittedly understandable indecisiveness if it means Terry gets even slightly hurt. Our woobie is just that special to us, and for once the leading lady is universally getting raked through the coals for her runaway bride routine at the end of episode 20. But unlike my assumption that if she bails it means the end of the road for her and Terry, the writers actually managed to introduce an unknown – she bailed because she wasn’t ready, not to pick Guan Jun over Terry. So where does that leave the three of them now that the truth is out (and frankly, Terry knew the truth all along and he just couldn’t get Guan Jun to stop the pretense).
The preview makes it very clear even if the editing tries to keep the ending a surprise. Da Hua can’t pick between her two guys so she picks herself, she’s going to Australia for real this time. But instead of histrionics, Guan Jun is okay with it and promises to her that he’ll made something of himself when she returns. Why couldn’t this Lin Guan Jun have shown up like 20 episodes ago, because this is so late its laughable to redeem his character as someone able to become a better man. What’s clear in their interaction is that they love each other and are happy for each other, but there is no romance there. And it’s with Terry that Da Hua can’t let go. So her voiceover (surely a letter to Terry) is all the confirmation we need that the ending is going to be sane. She says “When I come back in one year, can I be your bride again?” If it was me I’d say “OH HELL NO” but because its Terry, not only is he going to wait for her, he might just not let her go alone. At the very end of the preview, Da Hua’s Grey Bear falls in the aisle and the person who picks it up is clearly our Terry. I actually know by sight Chris Wu‘s hand by now and it’s Terry waiting for Da Hua. That girl, what universe did she rescue in her past life that she deserves the paragon of perfection?
Preview for episode 21:
Ah Xi: Da Hua, have you decided, does your heart want to pick Terry or Guan Jun?
Da Hua: What are you so good to me? Why don’t you yell at me!
Terry: Because I love you.
Da Hua: I don’t even know anymore who I love. What right do I have to love you?
Guan Jun: Big brother Jin Biao, I’m here today to talk to you about something. I want to resign.
Cheng Hong: Since you still love her, why don’t you use every method, use every effort, to win her back.
Terry: I believe if we are fated, then we will still see each other no matter where we are.
Da Hua’s voiceover: During this time I’ve thought long and hard, I’ve decided to go to Australia. (I bet this is a letter she’s writing to Terry)
Guan Jun: This time you really are going far away from me. When you come back from Australia, you will definitely see my improvement!
Da Hua’s voiceover: If after a year I come back, will you be willing to let me be your bride again?

Yes,yes, it's our fate that we still end up regardless what happen... Now this is the ending I like, and it better be this way. Gee, why making the drama so complicated, Long & dragging. Anyways, as long as Terry has what he loves, I'll be fine and happy for him.....
Ugh. Da Hua is like a pigeon with a lobotomy. You're right, she must have rescued humankind 10 times over in her past life to deserve Terry.
Off-topic but has anyone noticed that the serious/dramatic/dun-dun-dun music in this drama is REALLY similar to the music in The Princess Bride? Every time I hear it, it makes me laugh which is so not the tone the drama is trying to set.
So maybe this is why they say 'Drugs are bad' lol cause this cracktastic show seems to have turned on us, yet we can't stop it...
You know what Miss Koala I am not happy with Da Hua anymore!
She's playing victim now, she wants Terry to yell at her and she once again gives him the cold shoulder! I really wanna scream and put some sense into her brainless head! I know she does not know what is love but ARE KIDDING ME?
I really wanted her to chase Terry this time around but she can get out of this just with this line: If I come back after one year..can I be your bride again?
I'm in WTF mode right now....Da Hua is such a nut cas I can't even ...
Seriously, girl must have saved a universe in her past life to get a second (third, fourth...I've lost count) chance with Terry. I'm so excited for episode 21 because I feel like I know she will end up with Terry even if she bungles her way to him haha. Guan Jun has actually matured! Honestly, I don't care too much about his story line as long as he doesn't have romantic feelings for Da Hua anymore. Can't wait for next week's final episode...until then...Chris Wuuuuu (Wooooo! Hottie haha).
Phew! Wow it took them ONLY 21 episodes to realize that Da Hua and Guan Jun are not actually in love with each other, so all this time they had some kind of affection for each other but mistook it for love. Man oh man what a mess but I still don't care as long as Terry gets his happy ending I will put my pitchfork down, however I will have it handy in case they make Terry cry.
As crappy as this drama was I can't stop loving it just because if gave us Terry and what a fantastic character he turned out to be, someone out there needs to put together all the Terry scenes so that our Terry withdrawal will never end:)
OHMYGOSH SO FREAKING BABY TERRY BECAME THE LEADING MAN ALREADY! OHMYGOSH! AAAAAaaaaaaaaah im screaming inside my throat wahahaahahhahahahahaha gosh man! this is so good to be true! -_-
I hope the finale will have many Terry's moments as I'm going to really miss the fabulous Terry (aka Chris Wu) when KF ends. T.T I also think it's Terry's hands.. he seems to be the one who always picked up the grey bear whenever Dahua dropped it.
Hahah! I was pretty sure that the guy picking up the Grey bear was Terry with all the hints that the preview was dropping but I still seriously had to freeze that screen/scene to analyze that outstretched hand! XD Glad to read that I wasn't the only one who did that!
Such bipolar writing! How does the same team that creates the too-good-to-be-true Terry also come up with the too-stupid-to-live DH? Not to mention GJ. Oh well...no matter how tortuous the path getting here was, I'm just going to be happy that it looks like Terry gets his HEA. That's all that matters at this point anyway.
In my mind I have a picture of several different writers, and there is one writer wrting all the Terry scenes. they lost a bet or owe someone money or gangsters have the deed do their grandmother's house, so they have to write with the others. They write a Terry scene and then get the script back and roll their eyes and write another send it off get the script back roll their eyes and write another and repeat in their passive aggressive way. I just can't believe that the same person writing Terry wrote any of these other characters.
