Written and Video Preview for Episode 8 of Prime Minister and I

It’s a testament to how much I’ve grown to love Yoona that I even think her SNSD group mates swinging by the Prime Minister and I set for a visit is the cutest sweetest thing ever. I don’t follow K-pop in the slightest but I remain perplexed by the popularity of SNSD since it appears to be just a huge collection of leggy bombshell babes singing and dancing in unison, and no different than the other dozen and more girl groups out there. I honestly can’t tell their singing or group styles apart but Yoona turning an acting leaf over in PM feels like a late-arriving Christmas surprise after Christmas is nearly over and I’m ready to call it a night. I know she got lots of attention with You’re My Destiny but I thought she was blander than white toast in there and seemed to cry all the time in the second half. Cinderella Man was just horrible and Love Rain made me want to give her the three strikes you’re out treatment. I’m sooooo happy she found the right role, right co-star, and right story for her to shine in PM. The story is so warm and darling that I would have been sad to drop it because she was terrible and I couldn’t keep watching.

All the SNSD girls other than Tiffany was able to visit Yoona on set and brought a lot of warmth and cheer with their caring gesture to support her hard work. They also snapped a picture with leading man Lee Bum Soo who was beaming to be surrounded so many purty girls. I see Sooyoung at the end on the left and she’s also adorable when I remember her in Cyrano Dating Agency with Lee Jong Hyuk. I now have two SNSD girls who I like as actresses and it so happens both are also recently joining the public dating brigade. Yoona as Lee Seung Gi to spend time with after she leaves her Prime Minister hubby after work hours, while Sooyoung has finally come clean about a long rumored relationship with Jung Kyung Ho. Perhaps there is a reason to the SM madness is pairing their SNSD girls with much older married co-stars in dramas since no chance for scandal plus it’s easier acting with other taken co-stars. Next week PM gets back on track with two episodes and I’m sure the fall out from the accident in episode 7 will send all the major players scrambling emotionally to figure out what’s going on and how to deal with it.

  • I heart this drama so much. Miss Korea is a bit too heavy for me and You From Another Star kind of seems like much ado about nothing (imo) but this one really gets me in the feels without making me feel too manipulated.

And it looks like this timeslot is only going to get sweeter since the successor is said to be a Jang Hyuk rom com... heck yeah!

    • No no, Full Sun with Yoon Kye Sang and Han Ji Hye follows PM, and THEN Mozart Romance with Jang Hyuk. My Hyukkie!! In a rom-com again! So much <3333333. Spring cannot come fast enough. *____* I'm loving the KBS line up. But yes, I totally get you with PM being just right. I feel the same way about Miss Korea though I think YFAS is actually strangely entrancing but definitely nonsensical even in its own mythology but the hype is greater than the actual quality.

      • D'oh, my bad. Meant after Full Sun... I'm all about Jang Hyuk so you know I'll be tuning in although the description of the leading lady makes me think it's going to be an idol; which isn't bad in and of itself but my mind keeps going back to Suzy and So Hee from Wonder Girls. *shudder* I've got to keep my fingers crossed that we get a talented young actress on board.

+ I wanted to ask you about the successor to Empress Ki. My Korean isn't so good, but from what I've gathered the president of MBC is worried that KBS' Jung Do Jeon will take the luster off of Pa Cheon Hwang so it's being delayed in favor of Dae Jang Geum 2? Weird. Can't wrap my head around making that kind of decision so lightly unless the concern has been around for a long time.

  • hopefully nam da jung will not get too hurt (emotionally!) these upcoming two episodes...

am a girl, but nam da jung is my fave character in this drama.

  • Sooyoung is still my favorite although i have finally taken a liking to Yoona after PM & I. One episode this week was just not enough. Each week, the highlights for me are da jung with the kids, and da jung with the prime minister. everything else pales in comparison, but the heartwarming moments make up for that.

YFAS is the show to get me in the feels week after week, though -- it's probably a combination of the romance/chemistry and the richness of Jeon Ji Hyun's character -- who is so compelling to watch. Mythology needs a bit of a clean up but it's way funnier than i expected it to be.

    • YFAS is really great and it is the perfect show for me right now -How great is Jeon Ji Hyun!? She is rocking that character and Kim Soohyun is charming as always. I wish they would tone down the murderous older brother story a bit though, but otherwise I am loving that show (and its hilarious parodies of various things)and I think it really deserves its ratings.
PM & I is great too and I like the mystery with the deceased wife and the light-hearted comedy too. Although I think it is not as dynamic as YFAS but its heart warming and I love the characters. It is slightly less fun to watch now because I was shipping Yoona and Yoon Shi yoon so much haha. Hope the ratings go up soon~
Please keep being great both dramas!!!

    • Do not really get the hype about You Who Came From The Stars, reading the recaps in dramabeans seem enough. I don't feel compelled to watch it. Am I the only one though?

In contrast is Evasive Investigative Agency or something like that... Read the recaps, and ended up watching it!

  • ACK. I need to know what the heck is going on with In Ho...he is so sketchy. It's driving me insane. What does he say to Joon Ki in the preview?

Also, off-topic but Koala mentioned it above, YFAS (which is another show I'm currently obsessed with) has an amazing female lead JJH and of course KSH :DDD so that's why it's strangely entrancing even if the plot is laughable and the only issue is whether people find out Min Joon is an alien...but heck if aliens looks like him on his planet, take me there!

    • Also, in terms of SNSD dating, when is my fav Yuri going to get a boyfriend? I've heard/seen that Hyoyeon has a boyfriend too. Of course idols date, and it's sad they have to keep it a secret because of crazy fans (cough Jonghyun cough).

      • Didnt the last year Sooyoung-JKH rumor mentioned that they went on "double dates" with Yuri and Ha Jung Woo? But maybe they're just wingmen to make SY-JKH date seems less like a date. It's interesting if they're really dating (Get those hot actor oppas, girls!) But of course, not as interesting as Yuri's lesbian love triangle rumor with Son Ye Jin and Han Ye Seul from few years back...

      • @Jessie hehe I have a soft spot for Choi Jin Hyuk cuz he admitted on Strong Heart that he has a Yuri player and whenever he saw his video of Yuri he was happy. Also there were always rumors of Minho (Shinee) and Yuri...aish, I'm not even an SNSD fan yet I know so much about her lol. Need to stop clicking on youtube videos.

      • omgg yuri with minho please :3 But even if they are together I don't think SM will admit it since they are both under sm

  • Uh oh. I dont want Dajung and Inho to get involved in scandal :( What I love the most about PM&I is its heartwarming feel, I hope it stays that way now that we're going to get more drama in the story.

Ah, instead of musicality... what makes SNSD popular is their variety show skills and personas, imo. Everyone in the group is entertaining in their own distinctive ways and unexpectedly really, really snarky and witty. They has great group dynamics too. All that help them gained the-wall-you-cant-climbed status since they managed to be loved by the general public and have massive loyal fanbase as well.

Speaking of which, I really cant wait for them to appear on talkshowbor something and tease the hell out of Sooyoung and Yoona for their so-called dating scandal lol

  • You may be on to something Capt K... The whole pairing their idol girls with older married actors. I'd say its magic sauce and it's working... I even completely forgot about Cinderella man. Win-win for everyone!!

  • As one of the six people (snerk!) who stuck with Yoona & JGS in Love Rain, I am thrilled with the pace of PM and the entire cast!

Just to be clear, Love Rain has a special place in my heart and my drama collection, but it's fun being in sync with the dramaland community as we continue being rewarded with a great story and an OTP we can really root for. <3 <3

    • I am one of the few who watched Love Rain too! Watched it because of YoonA and Jang Geun Suk since there was not much of a story, really. If YoonA and Jang Geun Suk did not have chemistry, I would have dropped the drama... But they did have chemistry so ended up watching it.

Was watching it while airing until episode 15 then the English subtitles stopped. Later on, I rewatched from episode 05 until the end. The daughter and son are the best characters, IMO.

  • I seriously have no patience for In Ho and don't care what his issues are. Other than that I'm looking forward to another episode. Last week felt empty with only one.

  • I saw the first few minutes of You From Another Star but I just wasn't into the story. Unlike The Prime Minister and I which started with a bang. I wanted to know right away why they had gotten married.
And I am eagerly awaiting for it to be Monday already so I can see the next episode. Plus I think the story is well written. Is the way a rom-com should be done.
