Filming Commences on the Joseon version of The Three Musketeers with Lee Jin Wook and Jung Yong Hwa

It’s still two months away from the premiere of The Three Musketeers on cable network tvN, but the cast and crew have assembled for filming already because the drama is aiming to be pre-filmed as much as possible. Such a wise decision, I wish more dramas would have confidence in its story integrity to do that rather than the live shoot system to tweak for fan reactions. Starring Jung Yong Hwa, Lee Jin Wook, Yang Dong Geun, Seo Hyun Jin, and Yoo In Young, this is a re-imagination of the Alexandre Dumas novel of the same name but transported to Joseon times. I think the concept is great as the set up works in any country with swashbuckling swordsmen and a monarchy to protect. Jung Yong Hwa plays the D’Artagnan character as the young aspiring military warrior who wants to join the royal guards where the infamous Three Musketeers protect the King. Lee Jin Wook is the Crown Prince (and I think one of the three musketeers) with the other two being played by Yang Dong Geun and Jung Hae In. This drama comes from the critically acclaimed production team behind Queen In Hyun’s Man and Nine: Nine Times Travels, which is where Lee Jin Wook is back to reunite with his Nine crew. Jung Yong Hwa posted a picture of himself in sageuk garb getting his costume hair done on the set of the drama, so those excited to see sageuk Yong Hwa can drink up your fill below. Lee Jin Wook has also been snapped taking extensive horseback riding lessons so it’s good to know the leads are really giving it their all to tackle this drama.

Jung Yong Hwa’s character will be involved in a love triangle with Seo Hyun Jin’s Crown Princess and Lee Jin Wook’s Crown Prince. I have no idea how that could ever be a good narrative idea since the Crown Princess is already married to the Crown Prince! That was pretty much the reason poor Jae Hee‘s character got shoved in a corner in Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love, because it’s hard to write a third wheel guy pining for the girl who is already married off to the royal. I’m also supremely gun-shy when it comes to a synopsis that reads Jung Yong Hwa’s character is in an love triangle with a girl that he can’t attain. It would be fine if that didn’t lead to his fans overwhelming the portals with cries for him to get the girl regardless because he’s just so darn awesomer than the other guy. One Marry Him if You Dare is enough for a lifetime. Let’s hope this love triangle doesn’t sink TTM.

  • Watched The Three Musketeers movie..I love the scenes of the 3M...Hope it focuses more on tjier brotherly connection rather than the loveline..

  • I think Lee Jin Wook's character is likely to be the guy who didn't get the girl at the end.

  • Ah, LJW, with your creases and stubble, you are sexy enough. Now throw in the riding gear?

He's going to be so easy to watch.
