Uhm Tae Woong and Han Ji Min in Talks for tvN Drama Valid Love for Third Time Working Together

The 2014 K-drama couples reunion train keeps on chugging along and if this one comes true then it’s yet another notch in the rarified thrice-paired-up column. Jang Hyuk and Lee Da Hae are the most famous and prominent three time costars first with Bulhandang (Robber), then came Chuno (The Slave Hunters), and finally they landed in the quagmire of IRIS 2. The upcoming tvN drama Valid Love has been courting Uhm Tae Woong to headline and he’s reportedly close to signing on. Now comes word that the network is in talks with Han Ji Min to be his leading lady, and if both stars agree then Valid Love would be their third time acting together. Their first outing was the phenomenal Resurrection (also known as Rebirth or Revenge), which was the first and best of the vengeance trilogy with the second drama being Mawang (The Devil) and the final one was the lackluster Shark.

Uhmforce had great chemistry with Han Ji Min and in their second drama Wolf I was dying to see them in different characters that might make me ship them even more. MBC‘s big-budgeted Wolf also starred Eric and turned out to be one of the biggest disasters in K-drama live filming lore when leads Eric and Han Ji Min were hit by a stunt car during filming and the drama only aired three episodes before being postponed indefinitely and eventually cancelled. There have been multiple false alerts over the years about Uhm Tae Woong and Han Ji Min doing another drama together so I’ll wait and see if Valid Love finally succeeds in reuniting them yet again. Even if the leads don’t turn out to be these two, I’ll probably still check out Valid Love since it’s being written by one of my fave scriptwriters Kim Do Woo (My Name is Kim Sam Soon, Me Too, Flower!) and directed by the phenomenal PD Han who did Alone in Love. Funnily enough I actually shipped Uhmforce even more madly with his second female lead in Resurrection, which was also the best performance I’ve ever seen from the usually placid So Yi Hyun. She was amazing in there and her character was simply better written and more interesting that Han Ji Min’s sweet heroine. I just love Resurrection so, everything works in that drama from the romance to the revenge. Forever a big thumbs up~

As for Valid Love, it’s yet another adultery-centered drama (sigh) with an additional taboo helping of a teacher-student romance. The story is about a biology professor married to his former high school biology class student and their happy marriage is on the verge of crumbling when he catches her cheating on him. This sounds majorly depressing but the network claims this drama is uplifting in showing how the fated couple address infidelity and work through it. I’ll believe it when I see it, but in the hands of Kim Do Woo there is a good chance it might actually work.

  • Gross. I bet they'll make it look like the husband had it coming, too, in order to justify the female lead's behavior. NHFT.

    • Yeah, basically like the drama Temptation, which is getting really frustrating. I have faith that Han Ji Min will pick a good drama for her comeback--hopefully it's not this one.

  • Just reading the brief description make me automatically say: Avoid, avoid!! If the writer & network make what appears to be on paper an unappealing (at least to me at this point) story be not as depressing, eye rolling as it appears then they are miracle workers. As they say anything is possible.
Ms. Koala I hope you had a great time at KCON. :)

  • Gosh…I thought before they'll continue Wolf drama again….Eric was hot in Wolf, and Ha Ji Min was so pretty. How I wish they continue the Wolf drama, at least in my dream….hahahaha….

  • Thanks Koala for this news. I'm not sure if I like this new drama's plot description, even though I too am fan of the writer of "Me Too, Flower"...Glad to hear the reunion of former co-stars is still trending. If Han Ji-min takes this drama, I look forward seeing the first trailer. In the meantime, my wish reunion of former co-stars would be Yoon Eun-Hye and Joon Ji-Hoon. They were so cute together in "Goong" that I wish they pair up again in another drama. Maybe the trend will carry over to next year, giving me some hope? :-)

  • As much as I love both Uhm Tae Woong and Han Ji Min, the plot sounds terrible and will be hard to execute it as a light and uplifting drama. They should take "Oh La La Spouse" as an example of what not to do. That drama was a complete failure and a bag of disappointment. -_- I've never hated a drama so much until that came into production.

  • They made a great couple in Resurrection. But I really don't like adultery-centred drama! Will still give it a try if it is this pair.

  • While I'm still on the fence about this drama, Han Ji Min's potential casting makes it a little better. Considering the drama's premise, I was expecting that they'll cast an actress who's way younger than Uhm Tae Woong. At least their age gap isn't that huge, which makes the whole marrying-your-hs-student scenario less creepy.

  • Han Ji Min was in Mawang? i only remembered Um Tae Woong, Joo Ji Hoon and Shin Min Ah in that drama

    • "Mawang" was mentioned as the second one of the "vengeance trilogy" dramas with Shark being the third. Han Ji Min was in neither of these two.

  • OMG I love Resurrection and I shipped Uhm Tae Woong with So Yi Hyun soooooo much! It's why I have a soft spot for both :P I really disliked Han Jin Min as the female lead because she was sooooo boring and rather annoying...

    • To clarify I meant the female lead character. Dunno if any actress could have made that character likable...
