The OTP Share a Toast Near Kiss in New Stills for Episode 4 of Pinocchio

I feel myself so close to the precipice when it comes to Pinocchio. My interest and affection for this drama is on the edge of tumbling down the abyss of addiction, a sweet free fall sensation of giddiness and anticipation that hurts so good. The drama is certainly doing everything it can to hook me good and tight. The newly released drama stills for episode 4 showcases the type of romantic hinting that K-dramas are masterful at doing. It’s not risque or raunchy and mostly ends up being all tease and no payoff (yet). But the tease can be done so well that it makes the toes curl.

I always wonder how the two actors pull it off without getting too swept away. The latest juicy stills show post-makeover Dal Po getting dressed for a reporter exam with some help from niece In Ha. She’s helping him with his tie and then he helps himself to a bit of her toast right next to her lips. Yummy! I’m assuming neither Grandpa or Dad is around to see that otherwise Dal Po’s whole “In Ha is my bickering target only” ruse is totally blown. Park Shin Hye doesn’t yet rise up to the hot intense romantic reciprocation drama viewers will want from her later down the road, but Lee Jong Seok is already there with how much his eyes just melt for In Ha all the time.

I do wonder what In Ha thinks in all of this? Is she that clueless as to not feel how much Dal Po loves her, and love beyond the romantic sense but he basically would lay down his life for her already. I would prefer her to silently be aware of it and not do anything until he takes the first move otherwise she risks being too dense.

It’s a doubly nice day for Pinocchio goodies, on top of the lovely new OTP stills the production also released the first track off the OST which is the uptempo rap ballad “First Love” by Tiger JK. Did I mention I’m already madly in love with all the music played so far in this drama. Not a single missed beat anywhere.

  • I might have trouble accepting the romance between the two of them because...incest! I know they are not biologically related, but they still grew up as one family.

    • Well doesn't everyone in the family already know that Dal Po isn't actually the dead brother/son/uncle and is just playing the part for gramps, I'm sure the titles of uncle and niece won't really matter when all of it is revealed and the OTP can express their love for one another.

      • He has been officially adopted in a family. A lie or not, they have lived as uncle and niece for over 14 years. They are a family. Saying that it doesn't matter is like saying that adopted siblings can just get it on unless the adoption has been kept a secret.

      • I dont have problem with the uncle niece title.. I totally ship them.. they have chemistry.. plus they dont share blood.. so its okay.. hehehe

      • @Sour Grapes adopted siblings are considered just that by their family, ie siblings.

how is that in any way the same as Dal Po's case where both In Ha and her dad make it clear they don't consider him uncle/brother but only call him that to put up a show for grandpa. Same with Dal Po, even as a kid he calls them donsaeng and niece only for show. They treat him as one of them but the show is very clear that they don't actually think of themselves as uncle and niece.

    • agree, it s hard for me to accept step siblings romance so i feel the same here. however, PSH and LJS have pretty goo chemestry

  • That bread scene is going to play out so cutely, isnt it?
I was obsessively looking for this song so thanks.

I honestly wonder if my enchantment with this show is mainly 'cause of my love for IHYV which is just carrying over to Pinocchio. This show shares the same tone, vibes, mood, directing, writing style, and even similar osts (same artist used for one ost) as IHYV. However, i've pretty much come into terms that this show won't be at crack level as IHYV so now i'm just enjoying it as a separate entity. Positive comparisons are allowing my nostalgic feelings to be fulfilled but comparisons on one show lacking something over the other or was better executed are bound to bog anyone down and keep 'em from enjoying Pinocchio.
This show still has looots of potential going for us and we're still at episode 3 so we have yet to see what writer-nim has in store for us.

PSH really got lucky with this project. She seems to do well or not depending on chemistry/synergy with her costar and the writing of her character. Well, that would apply with any actor, but some people can make lemonade with lemons and do particularly well in a crappy role and a crappy project while others can barely squeeze out enough juice. PSH would fit under the latter; this isn't to say she won't get rid of the baggage she got from previous roles but I hope she continues to make wise choices about projects in the future since it seems to be working better for her this way.

    • You make a very good point, which I do not envy any K-actor: to steadily "make wise choices about projects in the future". This works for EVERY actor & actress better ;-)
The problem is, how do you know if it's a wise choice when you have to sign a contract? Since they never get a full script ahead of drama shooting. And you never know if it'll attract enough viewers and be a success (which means ROI for the broadcasting station + reputation for the actor = win-win). Was it a wise choice for Lee Min Jung to choose "Big"? Who would say no to a Hong sister drama alongside Goog Yoo? But in retrospective we'll agree it's a very bad choice! And I'm not sure how much influence or pressure the management company has on the choices. Especially for young actors. There are a lot of bad dramas out there, that even experienced actors couldn't rescue with all their abilities to stand out.
As for Park Shin Hey, which drama(s) you refer to as "baggage" where she "barely squeezed out enough juice"?

  • im glad you mentioned the ost koalas, no, you didnt say it yet... but finally...
yeah the music, ost, is really gooood

    • The song "First Kiss" by Tiger JK feat. Crush is show/age-appropriate... young and hip. I like it! It kinda sounds like one of the songs from It's Okay, That's Love OST... "Best Luck" by Chen [EXO-M]... or is it just me that thinks this?

  • It'll be good to see LJS with short hair next episode. For some reason with his "tacky" mussed up hair he reminds me of the late Michael Jackson. His pale skin and the work done on his nose makes it even more obvious. Not hating on the guy. I think he's a great actor but it's just something that jumps at me.

  • Love the chemistry between them... lee jong seok looks hot in the preview of ep.4. The storyline does not bore me. The relationship of IN HA and DAL PO is something similar to TRASH and NA JEONG of REPLY 1994

    • Now that you make that comparison, the set up sorta does feel the same, with the whole getting "adopted" into the family and growing up together (not blood related), but then feelings gradually transitioning from a "family" standpoint to a lovers standpoint. Some people may not be comfortable with that but to each his own. Na jung and trash are one of my ultimate OTPs so that could also explain my love for this particular OTP though i think they have a completely different thing going for them vibe-wise. I love long-time friends turned lovers tropes so much. It's like eating warm, chicken noodle soup which is easy to digest and brings you familiar feelings.

      • Na Jung and Trash did not grow up in the same house though. Trash only temporarily stayed in Najung's house after moving to Seoul, but there were more like childhood friends. Therefore I never gotten the fauxcest vibe I am getting here.

    • It's funny. I've already mentioned somewhere else how the exchanging of the preferred egg parts at breakfast have reminded me of Shi Won & Yoon Jea of Reply 1997. I really love their cuteness.
But now that @aimee mentioned it, technically In Ha & Dal Pol probably have more resembling with Na Jeong & Trash of Reply 1994. Especially in his über committed caring for her without her noticing. And the (fake) hierarchy: older-younger = uncle-niece.
Nevertheless, I can't help but perceive them emotionally similar to Shi Won & Yoon Jea for now. It feels so effortless how In Ha & Dal Po treat and understand each other blindly (while bickering ;-) ). Growing up together beeing the same age and sharing similar experiences at the same time in life probably helps more than suddenly seeing the former annoying younger faux'sibling' as a love interest. But that's just my opinion.

I'm glad to hear others beeing reminded of the affectionate and heartfelt feelings of the Reply franchise, too.

  • I haven't started watching yet but that first pic is hotness! I'm glad to hear it's good and that PSH is doing a great job. Can't wait to watch.

  • Thank you SO much for the stills... that just gave me the vapors. Jong-Suk just sizzled up my computer screen, and morning toast will never be the same~

  • "Dal Po getting dressed for a reporter exam with some help from niece In Ha. She’s helping him with his tie and then he helps himself to a bit of her toast right next to her lips."
