Ji Chang Wook’s Chinese Album Impresses with His Singing in Heartfelt Excellent Mandarin

Consider me impressed by Ji Chang Wook’s career expansion into Mainland China. It’s certainly following in similar footsteps of other popular Hallyu stars, heading there to do dramas, singing, or model after a hit K-drama or movie opens the floodgates of recognition. In Ji Chang Wook’s case it’s all due to the one-two punch of Empress Ki and Healer, but his efforts in China has thus far stood out for how much effort he’s putting in.

Last week he held a concert and fan meeting in Chongqing that kicks off a series of such events to promote his recently released Chinese album, which isn’t just an album released in China but also features songs performed in Mandarin. It’s a hard enough language to learn to speak, much less sing, and his lead off since “Be With You” showcases a fantastic Mandarin enunciation and a great singing skill. Way to go, Ji Chang Wook, nice of you to show off how to do things with conviction and talent.

  • Not surprised. He's been cast in musicals several times. Of course he's got voice to sing. But really his Mandarin pronunciation is on point. I like this guy as an actor also as a person bcos he's not an overnight sensation. His current progress in his career is all due to his hardwork through years. I watched his old dramas but none of them (including Empress Ki) is as interesting as Healer. Nevertheless, I can see how his acting skills were developed through different projects of a variety of genres, including family dramas, historical dramas, and then the most recent romantic fantasy. Wish him up the ladder of his career faster because he deserves it.

  • Agree. I imagine learning the chinese language is very difficult. He is such a hard worker and it shows.

  • i wonder why didnt he release a Korean album ? why he decided to release chinese album first ? i dont really like the song but he indeed has a good voice. if he can release korean single, it would be nice.

      • Everyone nowadays is catering to the chinese market...yesterday, it was Japan now China, nothing wrong with that, I would do the same if I were them. I'm wondering why people are seeing it as a negative thing, agencies will always seek to make more money and the chinese market is providing what they want thus it's a given they would choose China over Korea (too small of a market). Ji Chang Wook isn't the only one to do that...Joo Won, Jung Il Woo, SM artists and many others are doing just the same.

      • Hollywood is doing it too. People go where the money is. As long as the product isn't compromised in quality to pander to the Chinese audience then I don't see the problem. That's not always the case though but what's new...

  • he's currently filming for his chinese drama right ? and the movie Heartless City..with Shim Eunkyung...he hasnt filming yet.. seems like he wont make a kdrama comeback since he need to enlist soon. i dont know if he make a good decision.. though china give more money, but i think he need to solidify his career and popularity in korea first...if he enlist without making korean drama comeback, im afraid the netizens and drama fans will forget him.healer is quite underrated in korea and i think ppl will forget that drama though it's popular among ifans.

    • He already filmed "Fabricated City" with Shim Eun Kyung. Currently he's filming a drama in China. Next year he also announce probably he'll do a Korean production then enlists.
