SBS Primetime Dramas Six Flying Dragons and Remember Win the Ratings in Its Timeslots

It’s good news for SBS heading into 2015 year end, the network this week just won the ratings time slot for both its Mon-Tues and Wed-Thurs prime time dramas. It’s not by much, but having a dual win is so rare these days as ratings remain mostly depressed across the industry. Mon-Tues has been a lock with sageuk Six Flying Dragons, which hasn’t soared to the ratings heights as sageuks used to bring in but remains well received by critics and audience alike.

The biggest ratings winner for SBS in the Wed-Thurs time remains Yongpal, but The Village was such a ratings downer that it’s a bit of a surprise to see how quickly followup drama Remember (Son’s War) won the ratings battle just three episodes in over Sweet Savage Family and long time ratings leader The Merchant: Gaekju 2015. I’m enjoying Remember but not for the reason I thought I would be – Yoo Seung Ho is great in his first big drama after military service discharge, but the drama stealer is Park Sung Woong‘s performance and character. So fantastic and charming!

So far the narrative of Remember is straightforward as a legal thriller, with the bad guys outmaneuvering the good guys at the critical junctures to keep the crisis alive and give our hero a seemingly insurmountable challenge to overcome. It’s Park Sung Woong’s character who functions as a fascinating wild card and adds the unexpected jolts to keep the drama from being bogged down. It’s solid so far and definitely a possibility to retain the ratings lead during the remainder of it’s run.

    • Totally agree. Love all of the actors, but Park Sung-woong is doing an amazing job with his complex character.

  • I really don't get why Six Flying Dragons doesn't have much higher ratings, they should be much higher. I guess it's true Saeguks aren't as popular as before.

    • It’s true that Six Flying Dragons deserves higher ratings, but again, this is the highest ratings of all historical dramas this year. So, it’s still great. I love everything SFD, the writings and acting are brilliant. I hope they win awards.

  • Six flying dragons is very good. It's the first sagaeuk I watch without fast forwarding, lol. The childhood part is also very memorable.
Remember is a disappointment though. I expected something more. Park Min Young's acting is... meh

  • Six Flying Dragons' rating of 13 to 14% is not good for a sageuk by those writers. Every time I see stills from that drama it's dark, dark, dark. Too much Tree with Deep Roots & not enough Queen Seondeok?

    • I wish it had higher ratings but still think it's phenomenal the way it is. I pray they do not change it to try to get higher ratings.

    • Ratings for sageuk and any dramas these days hardly get past 15%. Compare to Quen Seondeok, which was 5 years ago, the 13-14% ratings for Six Flying Dragons is high at present time. I think the writers are doing a good job woth the story. I eant them to stick with it.

    • Koreans keep saying Nam Goong Min tries to look like and act like Yoo Ah In in "Veteran". But they love "Veteran" and Yoo Ah In, they can't get enough of his villainous character yet, so they feel like watching it/them again in a series. But seriously, though, Remember is boring AF. It's nowhere near "Veteran".

  • Remember is not my type of drama, started it for nam goong min but stopped, got too boring but I wish it success.
But six flying dragons is perfect, everything about it is perfect, I can already see bang won going crazy with power later on.

    • @shade Agree with you 100% . I saw better performance from YSH before but not liking him in this drama at all. His crying scenes makes me cringe for some reason and are too often. Mind you he is a high schooler but still...SFD is my Mon/Tue joy?
