Upcoming KBS sageuk Hwarang is casting like the second coming of the K-version of Bu Bu Jing Xin, and hilariously might air opposite each other. Hwarang is slated for Wed-Thurs in the fall following Arbitrarily Fond while K-BBJX is pre-filming right now with an eye towards simultaneous airing in Korea and China later this year. The leads of Hwarang were inked a few months back, with Park Seo Joon, Go Ara, and Park Hyung Sik, all of them making their first drama sageuk debuts.
All three are well known for their visuals but the production is clearly adding more eye candy punch – this week three more pretties join the cast in Minho of SHINee, rising young actor Do Ji Han of Basketball fame, and making his acting debut is V of BTS (Kim Tae Hyung). The three new additions are all playing Hwarang (flower boy warriors) of the titular drama title, as is Park Seo Joon as a Hwarang leader and Park Hyung Sik who is the Shilla King hiding his identity to be a Hwarang.
Come to think of it, Hwarang might turn into the PG-version of A Frozen Flower, in that movie set in the late Goryeo era, the King’s palace guards were dozens of good looking virile young men, and in the movie were played by Jo In Sung, Song Joong Ki, Im Joo Hwan, Shim Ji Ho, No Min Woo, and Hong Jong Hyun. I just need one guess that Hwarang will have a shirtless sword training session tucked away somewhere.

You just made me remember the Queen Seon Deok days; first time I ever heard of the word Hwarang. Come to think of it, it had the royal pretending to be a hwarang premise as well
First time I heard 'hwarang' from seodong ballad (2005).
