Lee Jun Ki and IU are Contrasting Darkness and Light in New Stills and Official Full OST MV for K-Bu Bu Jing Xin

There’s always a point-counterpoint in liking aspects of a drama and it looks like the first OST from Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Ryeo (Bobogyungsim: Ryeo) is going to be polarizing. I loved the teaser snippet released earlier this week and after hearing the full track “For You” by Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin of EXO I love it even more. It’s a bombastic modern synth-tinged track that works because K-Bu Bu Jing Xin doesn’t even pretend to be a straight laced old school sageuk with ponderous court discussions and seething backdoor plotting. It’s a rollicking action-packed romp with plenty of anachronisms built in simply with IU’s leading lady acting like a modern day girl because she is a modern day girl time-traveling to the Goryeo era. Her lightness contrasts beautifully with Lee Jun Ki’s intensity, and the first OST track plays up all that pathos.

  • I felt underwhelmed by the last 2 teasers due to the modern BGM but my interest has been resuscitated by the recent trailer though it's pretty much a mash up of previous teasers and China's Youku trailer. The BGM still nowhere as mind-blowing as the China's Youku trailer but at least, it looks fantastic and Lee Jun Ki, oh my, no word enough to describe how amazing he is and he stole the thunder from everyone. I am so ready for August 29th.

  • Koala should be awarded by K drama channels the best promotion grand prize. But I hope SH won't be another huge disappointment like uncontrollably underwhelming Uncontrollably Fond. LOL

  • I almost got an annoying brainworm. I hate this kind of repetitive music. They should have just used the background music without that "ta tara tara".

Anyway, there are only two good things about the drama: the fact that it is directed by Kim Kyu Tae, and the fact that Lee Joon Ki is the main character. I wonder, is it enough? Well, I'm really curious how it will turn out to be...

    • I agree regarding that this soundtrack is still unappealing especially for a saeguk.

I also agree that PD Kim Kyu Tae and Lee Jun Ki are the strongest force in this drama that ones can actually rely on to carry the drama forward but if the trailer is any indicator, the drama seems very promising.

I still have a good feeling that it will be successful. Alas, let's just find out next week...in fact, we have 3 days left to go.

      • Only they have changed a significant part of it, retaining only the time- travelling factor and the love lines. There is something distinctively Korean about this drama afa I can tell from the trailers and previews. There are parts I like and parts I don't from the trailers so far, but most importantly I hope the writer wouldn't change the heroine into the typically helpless character as the story progresses. After all she is the essence of the story and one with agency and makes decision to stay or leave in a relationship of her own volition, regardless of the viewers' attitude toward her. I hope the writer will do the source material and especially the character justice, because I also like the original novel. I may have to eat my own words (and I sincerely hope I will) but from the promotions so far this seems to be another male centric drama and at least the first few episodes will be dedicated to showcase how swoonworthy the princes are (i.e. More fan service).
Beating DOTS or Doctors or not, the show needs to be plot-driven. As an international viewer I'm looking more for well written and executed story than high-rating or fan-driven drama, and I hope SHR will live up to our expectations.
P.S: sorry for this wall of text and @Kat I don't mean to direct this at you rather than expressing my concern that the original source material we love may not be retained to the degree we'd hope it would. Now that I have let off my worries I'll be patiently waiting for the drama to cast my doubts and concerns as unnecessarily futile :P

  • I don't feel the chemistry between IU with her male leads. She looks like a kid around Lee Jun Ki and little sister around Kang Ha Neul.

I wish they casted the actress that could pull mature and cute at the same time.

Oh well, lets see what happen.

SM behind it, so I guess they will do as much as they can for promotion.

    • Well, IU's character is supposed to be 14 or 16 years old, so she should look young & cute rather than mature. And LJK's and KHN's characters are supposed to be in their mid-20s, so they should look older. In the novel & Cdrama, she IS KHN's little sister(in-law), LOL.

  • wonder if the K version end like the C version. The super sad death of female lead when she leaves that dynasty back to present time. i look forward to seeing the k version of it.
