I’m still so traumatized by K-Bu Bu Jing Xin that it was the first thing I make the connection with when I saw the latest ethereally beautiful family portrait movie stills from upcoming fantasy Chinese film adaptation of Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossom. It’s called Once Upon a Time and tells the tortured romance spanning three life times and incarnations for leads played by Crystal Liu and Yang Yang. In the story they have an adorable son who plays a huge role in getting the parents back together again, and in the process melt the hearts of every reader. Seeing the family selfie in the fairy gardens makes me go awwwww, and then feel even more bitter that KBBJX added one more layer of pain in throwing a 11th hour kid into the mix for the kept apart leads. I can handle sad endings but when a story adds a cute kid then it must not be allowed to pile angst on the kid not having either mom or dad around. In Three Lives at least the kiddo is basking in parental warmth.
