Epic may not be epic enough a word to describe the undertaking that went into creating the end result of next year’s biggest C-drama on deck Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace. It’s billed as a sequel of sorts to the biggest C-drama hit of the decade with Legend of Zhen Huan but that’s merely the production team and the scope but Ruyi is a self-standing story adapted from it’s same name novel. The setting tells the love story of Emperor Qianlong, the son of Emperor Yongzheng in the Zhen Huan tale, with Wallace Huo playing young Emperor and Zhou Xun his beloved Consort Ruyi. The production released it’s first teaser last week that made quite an impact, showing the massive scale of set construction, costume creation, and man power required in filming this drama. For the work alone it’s worth a watch, but seeing all the leads make an impression on one second shots alone leaves me wanting more.

Story is a sequel about Qianlong. Not Kangxi
The story is about Emperor Qianlong and his second wife, Ulanara, the Step-Empress, not Kangxi.
And it's directed by Wang Jun, who also did the Tanako Yuko vehicle The Firmament of the Pleiades, not Zheng Xiaolong from the original.
