It’s been four years since Gong Yoo‘s last drama, the high profile Hong sisters rare flop that was Big. But apparently it’s been five years of repeated wooing from screenwriter Kim Eun Sook to get Gong Yoo to accept her drama, which in essence means he was offered A Gentleman’s Dignity, Heirs, and Descendants of the Sun before he finally said yes to Goblin.
I think he was too young for Gentleman and too old for Heirs, but he definitely did get the DotS offer and was still too traumatized from the Big fail to say yes. But he was really moved by how earnestly Kim Eun Sook wanted him to do her drama that he agreed to meet about Goblin and after listening to her storyboard for three years he promptly took the leap of faith and said yes. I’m so thrilled he said yes because he looks impeccably cast as the immortal warrior goblin whether in sageuk garb or all suited up in modern times.

Who knows how this is going to turn out, but I am happy he choose this project and none of the others. I've only seen A Gentleman Dignity, which I liked. So I am hoping for the best.
Wow. She must have liked him a lot. And just could not help musing at how would it turned out to be should Gong Yoo portrayed those roles made iconic by those other actors. With so many highly anticipated drama turning out to be a let down this year including LOTBS, I am not sure how Goblin will fare but one can always have faith than KES has never had a poorly rated show yet under her belt.
The problem with kim eun sook is she depends a lot on the big name. The dialogue is too cheesy.
AGD, heirs, and DOTS are too overrated for me.But somehow Goblin makes me curious since the trailer. The cinematography looks very good. I hope it won't be disappoint me later.
Thumbs up!!!
I never liked any of her works either that always featured cheesy one liner and alpha male but even crappy drama like The Heirs can reached 20%+ ratings so I kind of agree that the big names did chipped in to the success of her dramas. I guess maybe Gong Yoo finally convinced after seeing her impressive record with The Heirs and DOTS esp.
Sad but true..
Even if there are a lot of people who didn't like Big,I still loved him there. He played well his role but I didn't liked the actress very much and the argument had some important lakes. I'm sure I will like Goblin
she is probably a hardcore Gong yoo fan. I am sure he imagine gongyo in her mind as the main character while writing for dots and goblin.
??????
I like her dramas because the second leads are interesting too. In Heirs, I was not a big fan of LMH but KWB and PSH had a great chemistry and the two couples KMH and Krytal and KJW and KHN were really cute. In AGD the four men had a interesting story, the same in DOTS. I think she gives us the choice to find a story we can love in all her characters.
we can see how a big fan she is of him and I really hope her drama won't dissapoint for his and my sake!! I don't see how he could be fit in her other dramas, maybe for Dessendent Of The Sun but not in the others, but in this one he is 100% perfect in this role!!
i just want to say gong yoo is perfect in this suit he looks gorgeous
i'm so excited for this drama so please KES don't ruin it it's GY come back to dramaland after 4 years
For DOTS, Song Jong ki is a better actor anyway so it's a win win for kim eun sook that she finally can cast both in her drama
+1, agree. I don't think I would have enjoyed DotS so much should GY have been the lead. Besides, Song Hye Kyo would not necessarily have had as perfect chemistry with GY as with SJK. I have never been a fan of GY. I even watched CP for YEH's sake and tried to watch all his dramas after CP but failed to go beyond one single episode for each one. For me, his ahjussi vibe is too strong. LOL. But I will check out Gobin just to see how KES is gonna fair this time. For me, she is either a hit or miss. Lovers in Paris, Lovers, On Air, and DotS won my favor, but not the rest.

I totally disagree. SJK did a very good job in DOTS, but I think GY would have done even a better job. Why? Only because he's a veteran, has done more dramas and movies. Who's the one who has at least two movies in theaters this year? GY. And with very good critics: Train to Busan and The age of shadows. And no offence to SJK fans, I'm one of them and watched all his works, included Money pinchers
We will just agree to disagree. It is all about personal taste regarding on screen charm, nothing to do with acting skills or experience. GY has never worked for me. I could never get why so many women swooned over him in CP or any of his dramas and films. No offense to his fans.
Wow. Gong Yoo is definitely a love. I hate stupid Big for its plotline and female lead.
