Cable Network tvN Remakes Popular Music Romance Manga The Girl Who Loved Lies

Cable network tvN has picked up a Japanese manga adaptation for it’s early 2017 slate, it will be adapting the Aoki Kotomi manga The Girl Who Loved Lies (Kanojo wa Uso o Aishisugiteru) for the small screen. There has already been a hit Japanese movie adaptation of the same name with the English title The Liar and His Lover starring Sato Takeru and Ohara Sakurako. It’s set in the music industry as a hit pop star quits his band and goes behind the scenes as a silent producer, all the while living an incognito life and dating an ordinary girl with music dreams of her own. I hope tvN doesn’t cast two idols, the J-movie had Takeru and Sakurako, both of whom excel at acting and just happen to play music. Let’s keep it acting talent first and music ability second, otherwise this sounds like a decent possibility to translate nicely into a K-drama.

  • Actually, having music in a drama is often an excuse to cast idols.. look they can sing! (and they'll manage to act too!)

  • OT: Sorry but Miss Koala, will you ever do another post on the list of Japanese actors that you love? I think the last one that you did was in 2011, and I would love to see how that has changed over the years :)

    • Yeah, I miss all the j-entertainment news too. But anyways... I can totally see idols being casted here... I like the premise of the story but will only tune in depending on the cast. Otherwise I'll just watch the j movie version.

  • OMG!! I just hope tvN doesn't remake this into typical kdrama!! I'm loving the manga and thoroughly enjoyed the movie!! Sato Takeru is one of my beloved J-actors!

I also agree with you... no IDOLS please!! There are plenty of actors/actress that can sing pretty well... watch King of Masked Singers, loads of actors/actresses go on it!

  • I haven't watched the movie or read the manga myself but most remakes don't do the original justice so I hope this is an exception. Sato Takeru is indeed a talented actor so hopefully the Korean counterpart will be good too.
Speaking of remakes Mainland is currently remaking Proposal Daisakusen drama version and is planning to film a movie version next year. It seems like PD has become another classic that is going to be remade N times.

  • I love that movie so much! I didn't read the manga, but I saw the movie, and it is so good. The actors were amazing, being able to show all the feelings so well!

I really hope that they cast really good actors. For those Who saw the movie, the expectations will be really high. If they do it right, it has everything to be a really great drama.

  • At first, I thought of Bogum.
But then, I hope it'll cast Kang Haneul as the male lead.

    And for the female lead.
    Yes! Eunji, please!
