Well this is unexpected, but actually not unwelcome now that I’m readjusting my expectations for upcoming MBC drama Missing 9. The first teaser is out and it’s not an island vacation in the least, the drama has been billed as an entertainment industry plane crash saga and now has Lost and Lord of the Flies vibe added to it. A plane carrying 9 individuals all connected within the Korean entertainment world crashes on a deserted island, and the drama appears to be told in flashback and unreliable narrator fashion with Baek Jin Hee’s character reportedly the sole survivor to be found. The teaser gives everyone a moniker from leader to superstar to eyewitness, so hopefully revealing the ending first won’t suck the tension out of the drama narrative.

This is an interesting concept for a kdrama, compared to the usual chaebol and love triangle cheesy love stories, maybe because of the writer, he writes some of my favorite dramas in ocn, looking forward to this one.
Boy did this drama go through some iterations before it finally hit production?! Wow! But what they have ended up with is very ambitious and I hope it works out at least 50%. Because if W goes to show us anything it's that if a really unique drama can succeed at least 50%, it's still better than most of what's out there. Well, they've got one of the best actors in Kdramaland leading, so fingers crossed!
And in the end the "leader" aka Jung Kyung Ho survived as well and they get a happily ever after. Somehow this would make the drama super average and boring. But since it's not airing yet I'll just wait and see.
Surprisingly the teaser got me hooked with the potential of deceiving me into believing the drama is good. Let's hope it really is. :)
Jung Kyung Ho deserves a hit. And this looks good. Hoping it'll deliver.
