Guest Stars and Supporting Characters Shine in Goblin as the Drama Integrates All Characters Seamlessly

Everything feels connected in Goblin in ways both substantive and logical within its fantasy narrative. Supporting characters tug at the heartstrings or make one seethe with anger, and guest starring roles are memorable and meaningful. The leads have the lions share of screen time but long after this drama is over I will also remember all the seemingly minor characters and moments involving them that were beautifully integrated into the central story line.

Kim So Hyun and Kim Min Hae‘s role as Kim Sun and Wang Yeo was sweetly rendered so that present day Sunny and Reaper could feel so three dimensional in their sudden romance. Park Hee Bon as Eun Tak’s mother was the first to make me cry in episode 1, and Nam Da Reum showed us how Goblin lived his 900 years with purpose to help those who understood how to gave back. Jung Hae In‘s oppa was more than just a jealousy trigger plot device, and all the ghosts around Eun Tak made me root for their exit from limbo in a way that mirror’s Kim Shin’s quest to die.

  • Everything and everyone is significant in this story. Nothing is sudden or haphazard. I love the intricacies.

  • For me the side characters shone much more than the actual main characters.

In particular Eun Tak's mom and the boy that the goblin helped and then met again as an old man after he died. Those really made me shed some tears.

  • Absolutely agree. Every single supporting actor and actress in this drama is superb. Everyone act so well. They left unforgettable impact within limited screen time. Thanks to KES story, every single role is well written.

  • Idk if it's just me but out of all of the main female characters, kim so Hyun has given the best perormance in her short cameo. When she was talking to the king you can feel the complexities of emotions she's feeling. Then they transitioned to yoo in ah, which totally broke the flow of the emotional tension built up by kim so Hyun.

    • They were both noble, dignified, and headstrong but just a little different in the emotion that was being projected.

Kim So Hyun's Queen was more of a young queen being hurt, misunderstood by her love while Yoo Inna's Queen had brought more of her Sunny's present personality: feisty and badly betrayed by the king into the queen so I felt a little disconnect there.

    • Kim So Hyun has always been an amazing actress.

Her short appearances in "I Miss You" and "I Hear Your Voice" left such a huge impact. She lights up the screen.

  • YES, if only I could feel for Eun Tak the way I have felt for every single other character in this whole entire drama, it would truly be perfection. Bummer.

  • I have seen Eun Tak's mum act in other shows before, she always did the good friend role, dependable and solid. But this is the first time her acting really moved me. I was sobbing when the twist was revealed that she was dead...a real powerful moment.
