Congrats to Yang Mi for winning the Best Actress award for the Chinese film Reset this past weekend at the Houston Worldfest International Film Festival. It’s the 50th year of the festival and this year the Asian films were quite prominent in the line up which is no surprise as China has become the second largest market for movies. Yang Mi accepted her award in person and looked ravishing in a strapless floral pattern gown that echos the Dolce & Gabbana collection from fall of 2012 which I made fun of my sweet Yoon Eun Hye for wearing a dress that looked like it was made from grandma’s curtains or upholstery fabric. On Yang Mi, there’s no heaviness or fuddy duddy vibe from the ornate fabric and chintzy motif due to the strapless clean style that leaves her shoulders bare, and the majority of the dress pooling on the ground so she mostly looks elegant rather than stuffy. Love it and also love how radiant she looks in clean makeup and simple hair pulled back.

Chinese stars really know how to dress for red carpet!
@Gem
I agree with you. It seems that Chinese stars always dress better @ these kinds of events more than the Korean stars. Congrats to Yang Mi. 2017 is a very good year for ger.
Yah they are only good in dressing up, but in terms of popularity wave across the World they can never beat Koreans. the only ones who can appreciate Chinese drama and movies are Chinese immigrants also, like duh have you heard of Europeans, Americans, Latino, Indian, Middle Eastern, Africans, Southeast Asian go rave and gaga over Chinese drama or movies?? Hell No, even their actresses I only see here, seldom, rare, just look at popularity tags in this site, its mostly Koreans. Its because China is a bully, their entertainment will be a Flop worldwide!
Chinese dramas are slowly gaining international popularity. The past 3 years have spawn international hits like Nirvana of Fire, Journey of Flower, Love O2O, Ode to Joy and now Three Lives Three Worlds. Soon they will catch up to K-dramas. And their film industry has always been ahead of Korea.
@Hallyu - Wow, nice to know that you felt so insecure about Korean's Entertainment that you have to put down Chinese Entertainment.. The Chinese films have been in the Western Market far longer than the K-dramas. Let's all be appreciative of what both countries have to offer and not knock down China, just because there is actually a nice article of a Chinese Star instead of a Korean one...you can go to the other Korean Entertainment blog and gush and rave all you want about Korean Entertainment there....

I've actually seen many foreigners "going gaga" over Chinese drama, movies, singers, tv shows, etc. They've even learnt Chinese because they're interested. I honestly think a lot of Chinese movies are more popular than Korean ones. Most young people are more into K-dramas (teen dramas) & K-pop and the older audience are probably more into Chinese.
P.s Three lives, Three worlds ain't a flop. :P
Agree.
I always cringe viewing red carpet photos of Korean stars. In this case, it's not like YEH could not pull the look with this kind of curtain fabric (she's equally thin as Yang Mi and has the height), it was the styling that was all wrong whereas in the case of Yang Mi, she did everything right.
She looks gorgeous, one of my favourite Chinese actresses ❤️
Really? I'm her big fan in China.so glad you like her
America would certainly love to have you work for their news media. You have the talent of blowing things out of proportion. The comment section would be awaiting for the rest of your alternative facts, Hallyu
I love love LOVE how Chinese stars dress themselves.....Korean events' fashion is always black or white w/ wedding like gowns....
Congratulations to her! I have yet to finish TLTW. Her acting tends to be on the subdued side. I'm sure the Chinese will be winning more awards in America in the future. Hollywood needs their market and vice versa.
Not sure about the get up. It looks awful. Too busy and too much. The earrings are busy, the gown is busy, add the ugliest velvet red sash with a bevy of jewels screams for its own attention. It would have been better if the sash was a jade green piece without anything and it will be perfection. Hair looks awful as well. It's not a pulled back look. It's a brushed back look. Ok if it's styled straight but as it is looks limpid and unwashed. Throw in the mismatched shawl of black red white stripes?????? This is fashion suicide. I disagree. Chinese stars always try to outshine everybody and that's the biggest problem. They have no collection that simple can be beautiful. Aka Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston and Kim Hae Soo.
Spot on! Too busy.
Beautiful!!! I really hope she wins big in her performance in Eternal Love! Loved her and Mark!
She looks beautiful
W-two worlds won special jury award in Houston film festival as well
The asian line-up was quite something
I maybe the odd one here. I feel like she is wearing a old fashion 70s curtain. The overall look is underwhelming. She is beautiful and that is the only plus point.
I think both Korean and Chinese stars are the same when it comes to styling but China has definitely come a long way from copy dresses to legit brand clothing. Today, I think both are on par when it comes to styling.
I've lived in Houston for years and I've never heard of this festival for some reason! I'll be looking out for it next year though, it seems really interesting.
See the name of the Chinese company on the billboard? Probably some big Chinese sponsor. This seems to be happening everywhere. Film events one has never heard of get some big sponsorship and then dish out awards to actors or movies not necessarily of the highest quality.
