Park Sang Joong Takes Home MBC 2017 Drama Award Daesang for Rebel: The Thief Who Stole the People

MBC held its year end Drama Awards last night and the winner of the Daesang was surprisingly Park Sang Joong for Rebel: The Thief Who Stole the People. It’s a surprise because he wasn’t the male lead of that drama and didn’t have that much screen time for the entire run, but he’s such a critically acclaimed veteran giving it to him almost feels like a lifetime achievement award for all the fantastic performances he’s done for MBC dramas in the past. Rebel also took home the drama Daesang and the entire cast won various acting awards except curiously for male lead Yoon Kyun Sang who won nothing and wasn’t even in attendance. The fashion was white, white and more white for the ladies except for the rare smattering of other colors but overall everyone looked pretty enough. MBC really had a bad ratings year in 2017 so hopefully it’ll line up better drama projects in 2018.

  • No offense but Lee Mi Sook looks like a witch. That hairstyle got to go, lady. And HJW normally effortlessly chic but this time, she looked washed out. As much as I dislike white on red carpet, I think Kim So Hyun pulled the best red carpet look.

  • I've never watched Rebel, but I noticed that the supporting actors (Kim Sang-joong and Honey Lee) achieving greater recognition from various drama awards than the main leads (Yoon Kyunsang and Chae Soobin). It's not common to see.

    • I am currently watcing rebel and chae soobin does'nt have a remarkable role for me so far but yoon kuyng sang is amazing here. They should have given an award to him he really deserved it.

      • YKS prolly didnt get award because they knew he wouldnt come. They are petty that because he did real good job there.

The Daesang to Kim Sang Joong was worth it by far becuase he was heartbreaklingly good in his role. Small role or big doesnt matter he was best of the year in his channel awards.

    • i guess maybe it's cos both are more senior and experienced. chae soobin is still pretty new and winning an excellence award is good recognition for her. but I really don't understand the snub for Yoon Kyun Sang :(

    • Because there were really good in it, pretty much the performance of their lifetime. They were the evil, the leads were the nice guy so there were much more emotion depth,

    • Kim Sang-joong and Honey Lee both deserve all the attention and awards they are getting. They were incredible in "Rebel."
"Rebel" was Yoon Kyun-sang and Chae Soo-bin's first prime time lead role.

  • Kim So Hyun is working that rather plain dress. That hair and make up is icing on the cake. Girl is grown up. MBC has the most disappointing dramas this year. Didn't enjoy a single show except Lookout which has curiously been left out of the awards distribution.

  • Super glad Ruler took home only acting awards & not best writer or drama because it was a crap show. KSH and Seohyun have the best red carpet look especially Seohyun. That dress is fab!

  • boring red carpet..did everyone shop at the bridal store? what happened to color? ha ji won, honey lee & kim so hyun are the only ones who look fine.

  • Boring bland and more white dresses than a bridal store as usual for Korean Drama awards red carpet.

Looking at who won you can see MBC had a terrible year for dramas.
