K-drama to Remake its Own 2004 Early Hallyu Hit Phoenix Which Starred Lee Seo Jin, the late Lee Eun Ju, and Eric

Have we gotten to the point of remaking one’s own dramas, the answer is yes it seems though a few have been discussed over the years and never panned out. K-ent is reporting that the is a plan to remake the 2004 hit melodrama romance Phoenix (Firebird) though turning it from a prime time drama to a daily morning series. The drama starred young Lee Seo Jin and very young Eric, and sadly the leading lady Lee Eun Ju was only 24 years old and committed suicide shortly after Phoenix after suffering from major depression and mental health issues reportedly stemming from filming movies where she played risque roles. I’ve never been able to watch the old dramas of the K-ent stars who have passed if I didn’t watch it before their passing and Phoenix is one of those dramas. I think enough time has passed it could attract new viewers with a remake.

  • She was considered a very top actress and had lots of cf deals etc. I have read she was on par with then young actresses like taehyeji son ye jin etc

  • It reminds me Rowoon and Kim Hye Yoon who "reacted" the famous lines "Do you smell something burning" during Extraordinary You's BTS :p

It looks like even the young people know this drama.

  • I heard South Korea is going to remake the popular C-drama ‘A love so beautiful’. There are plenty of remakes but I would like to see the remake of the famous Japanese drama ‘Long Vacation’.

  • I wish remakes wasn't only for already popular/nostalgic dramas that doesn't need remakes. Would prefer to see remakes for flop dramas that needed just a cast overhaul or some writing changes to make a difference.

  • Why not just reintroduce the ORIGINAL classic to new generations of Kdrama fans? Would Hollywood years after making Casablanca make a remake and only show new generations the remake? How utterly stupid! Korea makes these wonderful Kdramas a decade or two ago and then hides them in mothballs in archives for years and then makes them over so people never get to see the original classic? Dumb. A classic becomes a classic for a reason: it stands the test of time. People cherish them in their hearts and remakes are never as great as the originals. Imagine them remaking Winter Sonata and then only showing new generations the cheesy remake and not the original classic that touched millions of people's hearts. Just introduce new generations of Kdrama fans the brilliant original classics and not lame remakes. Without the original cast it will stink.
