Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri’s Sci-fi Movie Space Sweepers Confirmed for Netflix Global Premiere

It’s been a week of streaming platform news coupled with some long awaited movie release dates. On the Hollywood front, Wonder Woman 1984 is finally getting released on Christmas Day with simultaneous broadcast on HBO Max. Wish it was on Netflix lol because I pared away HBO a few years ago. On the Korean cinema side, big budget sci-fi movie Space Sweepers (Spaceship Victory) was delayed twice in premiere first in March then in August and now will be released exclusively on Netflix. The release date is not yet set so it could drop in time for the holidays or early next year in 2021. I think it’s a great idea, who knows when cinemas can be open or even up to full capacity, and it’s better to get some return now and move on. I think this is the type of movie that could gain the leads wider exposure due to Netflix algorithms and promotions, so hopefully the movie is actually good so that leads Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri can file this away as a win.

  • They really can't go for a theatrical release...South Korea is more strict that USA and it would be a huge loss for them. That's the only reason Wonder Women is getting a theatrical release but judging by the number of deaths and infections rising, that may change. Anyway, I was looking forward to this. I am glad I'll be able to enjoy from safety of my home like many others.

  • They are taking a loss here. Netflix usually covers only 30 to 50 percent of the production cost. Wonderland was bought for 30 percent of the cost fir a worldwide premiere except for Korea and China where it will be released.

    • Production costs covered by NFLX isn't a percent. Costs were around $20M. NFLX most likely covered all of it.
