Han Hyo Joo, Park Hyung Sik, and Jo Woo Jin Confirmed for tvN Drama Happiness and Filming Begins this Month in May 2021

It felt like this production came together quick and hopefully it portends a quality product with how quickly the leads signed up. Today the production team of tvN drama Happiness confirmed the leads are for sure Han Hyo Joo, Park Hyung Sik, and Jo Woo Jin, with the script by the screenwriter of Watcher, The Good Wife, and Spy, with the PD of Record of Youth, Memories of Alhambra, the first season of Secret Forest, and Mrs. Cop. The drama is set in the near future as people become more and more isolated, and a battle for survival erupts in a residential building. People from different backgrounds are locked inside a building after an infection disease spreads and a battle of the minds and physical strength ensues. The leads are both police officers and the second male lead is a mysterious figure who is secretly investigating the origin of the disease. The drama is slated to start production this month in May for a later in 2021 premiere.

  • Actually the cast didn't come together quickly. The casting was already locked in prior to joseon exorcist scandal with BH artists Park Sung Hoon and Han Hyo Joo set to lead the production. The production was left with no choice but to withdraw their offer to Park Sung Hoon due to the anger of the knetizens still lingering on JE. Left without a prominent male lead as others have signed onto other projects, production lucked out when PHS other project got postponed and he got offered this project. I think it worked out well for all involved. Most excited though is team watcher that will helm this project. I liked the series and hopefully the tight directing translates in this one too.

    • Also, I think the other reason why they offered it to PHS is because they still want to secure him in the golden hairpin project. His schedule will be packed with 2 tvn dramas with the same production. If there is no scandal, this proj may be pushed with park sung hoon and park hyung sik’s sageuk drama will not be postponed. Studio dragon and tvn are playing it safe

  • This plot sounds so much like the synopsis to Sweet Home at first glance. Is it just me?

  • To be honest, I really cannot picture Park Hyung Sik as a detective. However, given that he is a very talented and charismatic actor and has consistently nailed all the different characters with brilliant performances (Hwarang, Strong Woman DBS, Suits, Two Lights and Juror 8), I am sure he will pull off this role convincingly. It will be interesting to see how he portrays this somewhat “out of the box” character and if he would have great chemistry with Han Hyo Joo like he always does with his female leads.

  • apprehensive about the plot but looking forward to the two leads working together. not sure how much romance there’ll be but hope there’ll be strong chemistry as well as strong characterizations
