Having a track record of success does make one keep expecting it so cable network jTBC looks like it made two missteps that just happened to be airing at the same time but overall is still very strong. K-ent is reporting that the network started the year strong with ratings and critical acclaim in dramas Beyond Evil, Law School, and Undercover, all got over 5% ratings. But the currently airing Monthly House and Nevertheless are both underperforming by a lot, Monthly House is getting 2% and Nevertheless just 1% range. Critics says Monthly House is somewhat interest but not even plot development and the romantic loveline keeps going back and forth, plus it’s on opposing mega hit Hospital Playlist season 2 so audiences aren’t tuning in. Nevertheless the consensus is that the acting of both the male and female lead is not good, the subject matter is negative for the viewers, and the script is a hot mess. With that said, critics see strong dramas in the wings at jTBC for the latter part of the year including award winning actors and production team of Human Disqualification with Jeon Do Yeon and Ryu Jun Yeol, the Lee Young Ae comeback drama Koo Young Ki, and dark thriller Sabotage City (Duke City) with Su Ae and Kim Kang Woo. Human Disqualification will be the first to arrive and it released a small teaser this week with the leads reading from the script against a spare white backdrop so it’s very mood setting for sure.
This year 2024 has been a slow year for K-actress Suzy in terms of her…
There are weird casting choices and this one is weird from both the leads itself…
Well this is an interesting pairing, setting aside the age difference at least I can…
I swear I just wrote about Song Joong Ki having his first baby and then…
At the end of the day, the core of any good drama remains the Story,…
If I didn't know this drama was a romance set in space and done K-drama…

I feel bad for Monthly Magazine as it is a good watch. Im loving all the characters so far. Hospital Playlist is a tough competition though. I love both but if I were to choose which one Id see first, even though I feel more invested in HP2 (just because Ive known them all from HP1) Id still watch MMH first then HP2 next since the latter is on Netflix and I can watch it anytime I want to.
Just because its big name, does not mean the quality will be that good.
Just look at Sisyphus, with JSW being always picky with his projects but turn out to be a disaster. LYA made a return to smallscreen with lacklustre project in Saimdang, so not sure if the next pick is going to be good. For now, not a good run somewhat for JTBC this year.
Romantic comedy is definitely not popular among Koreans these days.
Not a fan of human disqualification promo video. Looks too pretentious but im still gonna see it because of jeon do yeon ?
sorry lai pei yee didnt mean to post it on your comment
Snowdrop might have a better chance of getting ratings simply because of the noise that has surrounded the drama since last year. It finished filming so should also be releasing soon. JTBC has under performed since World Of The Married which was over a year ago. TVN at least has steady ratings for it's weekend dramas and franchises but JTBC has grossly underperformed. There was a list recently of top 10 ratings dramas and best rated channels which Koala probably missed but even there JTBC was reported to have performed poorly.
Since when jung hae in has rating magnet? He getting famous because son ye jin and ha ji min.His next drama will get rating wise 1-2%.
It’s Jisoo of BP and the “Sky Castle” team that would make this drama something to watch out for. JHI may have not yet proven his capability of leading his drama on his own but you can’t deny that he is good and charismatic leading man. At least he does the work done. The cast is great. It’s the comeback of Sky Castle team and the very first ever lead drama by Jisoo are what everyone most looking forward.
I am confused as to whether Nevertheless is actually underperforming, because it's not the kind of drama that households watch at night, and it's racking up huge online buzz among Gen Z and Millennials, who are its target audience and use streaming services to watch shows.
What online buzz? Its in the bottom of the Good data ranking whick looks at online buzz. Its only ranking good on netflix and nowhere else.
Rating wise is 1%
They do create a huge online buzz. On twitter facebook and netflix. I went to the swoon channel on youtube to watch HP band clips and i was surprised to see that nevertheless clips has 11M views in over 6days
@Red
I’m really not surprised at the high number of views (14M now and counting) of that one Nevertheless clip in Youtube. It’s the kind of scene that normally generates high views on The Swoon. Other than a couple of CLOY bts and promo videos, most of the clips on The Swoon with 10M views and higher are also those of make out scenes. The rest of the clips from the show has around 2-3M views. There is buzz but a huge chunk of The Swoon’s audience, as well as facebook and twitter buzz, is from abroad. They don’t necessarily translate to ratings. It might help the actors raise their Hallyu profile but not the broadcaster.
Domestically not internationally. ?
Nevertheless has the sensual scenes as the highest views. I mean that isn't the testament of the drama, people like that scene and that is the one that make buzz, as in "Korean hot scene" than "good Korean drama"
I actually just noticed that tvN is airing Voice 4 (already a known series franchise) at pretty much the same days and time slot as Nevertheless so maybe it also contributed as to why the latter has been flopping very badly in ratings
Monthly Magazine just isn’t quite clicking for me.
I’ve loved both main leads in other projects, but find the romance really cliched. He’s unlikable and she’s a pushover… but she fell into his arms so it must be love. Meh.
I like the comedy scenes with the whole magazine staff though. I’m most interested in the interactions between the other two editors.
I watched monthly magazine but idk why I don't like it esp otp. Both of them rub me the wrong way. I enjoy side story like all the editors, they don't make me cringe&ffwrd. Sorry.
I know nevertheless but first time I read the existence of that magazine drama... Jtbc working quietly these days
I like JTBC because they don't give up dramas that don't working like Be Melodramatic. For Nevertheless, the story is interesting but the actors don't suite it and Monthly Magazine is too old school. The couple is great but the other characters are meh.
