Rising Actors Jung Ho Yeon, Wi Ha Joon, and Lee Yoo Mi Rocket Up in Popularity After Squid Game with Multiple Increases on Instagram Followers and Comments

The success of Netflix drama Squid Game is like the gift that keeps on giving, bringing more recognition of Korean dramas worldwide and now also being a platform for rising and/or perennial supporting leads to step up into the broader popularity. Case in point the three younger actors in Squid Game – Jung Ho Yeon, Wi Ha Joon, and Lee Yoo Mi. Wi Ha Joon I saw in 18 Again and he was fantastic but the other two ladies were fresh-faces to me, and each delivered solid acting and showed that intangible element of onscreen charisma. No wonder in just one week the three have experienced an explosion in awareness and popularity as evidenced by their Instagram accounts. Followers have increased massively increased, apparently Jung Ho Yeon doubled her follower count in one day, and even their older posts are getting 1 million or more comments. Congrats to talented stars getting their deserving big break through impressing audiences with their acting acumen.

  • Pretty incredible this was Jung Ho-Yeon’s first acting role. She really delivered and am so happy she hit jackpot. I actually followed her modeling career since the beginning and was so excited when she was casted for this role.

  • Talk about Anupam Tripathi! Actor who played Ali , just Tuesday he had just under 3k followers now he is at 600k!

  • I didn't find them extraordinary. They were good no doubt but their role wasn't so difficult.

I find Lee Yoo-Mi way more interesting in 365 Days.

    But it's nice for them!

  • Last year when i pointed out how netflix is present n future, u n ur minuons here gangedup on me. U even especially came to refuse the fact that streaming is necessary. Now why to chabge tunes koalas aunty?

    • Don't mind them, there will come a time when all the top actors will be working for only netflix and avoiding all the other networks

      • It's already the case in US , but Netflix is losing step by step to another ones as AMAZON and many others . And Netflix is not a guarantee of quality . They have good and popular shows but also bad ones .

      • Disney is not going to buy Netflix...it can't afford the acquisition, and the synergies aren't in place for a merger.

    • Netflix just bought the rights of the entire Roald Dahl's works for $686 million. Some of his famous work include Matilda, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr Fox. Imagine the mountain of tv series and movies Netflix can create from Dahl's catalogue. It's like Disney buying George Lucas' Star Wars franchise. Netflix will be around for a long time in the future. Like it or lump it.

      • As Netflix owns the rights to all Roald Dahl's books, they can on-sell it to any country they have a contract with to make their own version. Imagine a Korean drama version of Fantastic Mr Fox starring Lee Dong Wook ala gumiho style. I can just imagine the Brits will be spilling their tea in horror and RD roll in his grave. Lol.

      • Netflix might/will probably apply the Disney-Marvel treatment to the Roald Dahl catalog, which spells endless possibilities for content.

Every Korean actor/actress and their agency should be banging down Netflix's door trying to get a foot in. A Netflix partnership can basically be a steady and top-notch meal ticket.

      • Netflix has just unveiled 10 dramas/reality series for next 5 months. They launched a global fan event called Tudum streamed live on Netflix Korea's YouTube. It was moderated by Super Junior's Kim Hee Chul and EXO's Kai. Looking to replicate's Squid Game's success will be Paik's Spirit, My Name, New World, The Hungry & the Hairy, The Silent Sea, Single's Inferno, Juvenile Justice, All of Us Are Dead and Love & Leashes.

    • I was joking @Ophelia about Disney buying Netflix . Disneysaurus was refering to Lustosaurus in Yumi's cells ! In my country we have a really few Netflix original dramas, as it's not our " fuerte" aside Lupin with Omar sy . France still has some dramas produced by public channels with an average of 21 % / 28 % ratings every week . I suppose that we still have an "Astérix" side .
