The look into 2022 K-dramas is starting in earnest now as all the promos are for dramas premiering in the new year. jTBC will be hoping for less or no controversy for its next Wed-Thurs drama Thirty Nine, taking over for Artificial City in early February. Starring Son Ye Jin, Jeon Mi Do, and Kim Ji Hyun, it tells the story of three best female friends who each have their own distinct background, personality, and life choices but nevertheless got each other’s backs. It’s a pretty bland premise and the color will be in the story details and the acting. Joining the ladies as their male leads are Yeon Woo Jin, Lee Moo Saeng, and Lee Tae Hwan and I’m not sure yet who is each lady’s love interest if any. The drama comes from the screenwriter of Encounter (Boyfriend), Entertainer, and Pretty Boy (Bel Ami), which I liked to varying degrees but didn’t find super problematic anything about the script. The first poster above is gorgeous with such pretty back lighting and the character stills give off the vibe that Jeon Mi Do is warm, Son Ye Jin in control, and Kim Ji Hyun rather naive.
There are weird casting choices and this one is weird from both the leads itself…
Well this is an interesting pairing, setting aside the age difference at least I can…
I swear I just wrote about Song Joong Ki having his first baby and then…
At the end of the day, the core of any good drama remains the Story,…
If I didn't know this drama was a romance set in space and done K-drama…
If Wang Xing Yue ever needs extra money he can be a professional dubber for…

How did this writer get so many big names star for below average written dramas? I couldn't get through 2 episodes of Entertainer and Encounter. They were both so bad and only were saved bc of the stars in it.
39 is supposed to be based on the hit c-drama 三十而已/Nothing But Thirty, so that may be what attracted the cast. The source material is there already, so the writer should have an easy job adapting it rather than writing something from scratch.
Chinese drama?? New scandal incoming
The poster is so bright and cheerful. I love me a female centric drama and hope the script does justice to this talented cast. I've missed Son Yejin on screen!
All I see are three insanely talented women. Their chemistry is exploding from the poster alone. I don't know about you Ms Koala but this looks like a very promising drama. It will take a very. very. very. bad script to ruin it. And even so it will still be watchable because of the charming actresses.
I'm really happy with Son Ye-Jin and Jeon Mi-Do but less with Kim Ji-Hyun. I don't know if it's because of her role in Hundred Million Stars From the Sky, but I'm always feeling a cold vibe with her...
I like the male casting. Yeon Woo-Jin was so badly used in Search... And I didn't finish Undercover. I didn't like Lee Moo-Saeng in Pretty Noona and One Spring Night, he was a jerk in both, but he was super cute in Designated Survivor: 60 Days and I liked him in The Silent Sea.
I don't like the writer but I do really like this cast. The poster is so pretty.
I love SYJ, JMD and YWJ but am not sure about the others. Full steam ahead to 2022 dramas. Would love YWJ to be paired with SYJ. Love him to bits in Marriage Not Dating with Han Groo (she just disappeared after getting married). Let the promos roll. Next, I'm salivating for Lee Joon Gi's Again My Life (SBS), Song Joong Ki's Chabeol Family's Youngest Son (JTBC) and Seo In Guk's Minamdang (KBS). Teaser for Minamdang came out super fast at KBS year end awards after 3 weeks of shooting. Such a huge treat for SIG fans. So glad the comedian side of SIG is coming back full blown. All in all 2022 looks great.
The poster is so pretty and bright. And the cast is certified talented so that's one plus in their favor. The writer's drama resume is not that impressive so here's hoping he/she got it right this time.
