Netflix High School Zombie K-drama All of Us are Dead Premieres to Mixed Reviews, Strong First Impression But Falters After

This is the last Netflix K-drama to air from that huge batch announced at the beginning of 2021, most of which went on to global viewership exposure with Squid Game being the most famous. All of Us are Dead is a high school setting zombie K-drama with a relatively unknown/rising young cast adapted from the same name webtoon. It dropped this weekend right before the lunar new year holidays and the reviews after one full day of release are mixed. This drama was actually trending high the week prior during the promos as viewers loved the previews and started to get hyped up. But after watching, the impressions are that it’s not as well-written and tightly plotted and the zombies aren’t super dangerous (one K-netizen’s comment had me ROTFL “If I encountered these zombies, I would survive too!”). I think this drama may catapult some of these fresh faces to stardom moreso than leaving a strong viewership mark, I’ve already heard buzz around Park Soloman and of course Yoon Chan Young has been a steady child/teen actor for the last decade and looks ready for his young adult roles.

  • I think it's a little long but entertaining. I'm fine with the acting too. It's already No. 1 on Netflix, and I can see it continuing to do well.

  • I really liked it. The acting was pretty good too. It was a little long but I also didn’t realize time was going. I can see this and Squid Game being the most successful Netflix dramas so far.

  • just another average zombie drama. personally, i only liked kingdom and happiness among the shows of this genre.

  • Writing and plot have been the weakest link for Netflix KR shows.

Hope the 2022 Netflix KR lineup fare better with writing. Pretty excited about this year's lineup. Money Heist is almost sure to be a big hit and has highest chance of attaining Squid Game popularity. Other possible contenders based on subject matter are Accidental Narcos and Glitch.

    • I think quite a few Netflix KR shows had really good writing but they weren't the ones that hit it big lol.

      • From the ones I watched, Kingdom and DP had good writing. The buzziest Netflix KR shows from last year: SG, My Name, Hellbound, Silent Sea all fell on the writing front. Cinematography was always great though.

  • didn't expecting this drama generatez this much hype in my country, well my name and hellbound as well. but this drama mostly with rising star. it's trending on twitter too, my country is really love korean drama related lol...

  • My sister put it on for family brunch and we all started our own rant on it. Teen characters still immersed in their own bubble despite the life and death situation, making frustrating decisions with zombies as background fodder. The zombies were boring, unlike Kingdom with their own world quirks. We didn't get far but seems its quite easy to kill them? How wouldn't anyone left survive.

    • All of us are dead was awesome. I loved it. I loved the fast zombies with red eyes. Great acting and the zombies were so scary. Loved everything about this series.much love to the writers and producers and director of this series. One of the best zombie series I've seen.

    • I really didn't think the zombies were portrayed as that easy to kill. The writing had its problems, but I thought it did the best with the teens. They were pretty resourceful but still kids making dumb decisions at times.

  • It’s kinda dragging..also,they are ao many dull and off moments. Some scenes do not connect anymore, the Zombies are hillarious!..they supposed to be scary. LOL

  • Could be at least 6-8 episodes only. Too much unnecessary scenes.

Acting wise, the veteran supporting actors did great as usual. The highschool actors who named Gyeongsun (the ML’s bestfriend) and Joonyoung ( the 2nd brainy one) did great. I’ve seen these two a lot so unexpectedly they were great. Most of the high school kid characters are so awkward.

For leads, Cheongsan did the best. Namra and Suhyeok are serviceable and have potential to be better in their next projects. While the FL Onjo is so awkward and her character also doesn’t help. Her character is the major turn off for me. The actress also needs to do alot with her acting skills to improve. However, I think the 4 leads will have bright future these coming years esp the two male leads.

I do agree with others saying that zombies are not that scary. They are many, yes, but not scary.

Maybe the social issues brought up by the show are what I like the best. But too many shows have already tackle about this and their interpretation are much better.

The background songs are also not great. Not fitting.

It’s watchable but not that great 6/10

    • The actress for Onjo is the worst acting I've seen in a long time. She makes Suzy in Dream High look like good acting. This just goes to show that not all rookie actors can actually act. Her character wasn't even that bad but this female was horrible and had the same one note expression the whole time. She put zero effort into her character. Park Solomon was serviceable but a huge downgrade in acting from his villian role in Lookout.

      • Everyone has the same opinion about Onjo she really was the worst part of the whole cast. Park Solomon should have broken out years ago but better late then never though I agree this performance was not worth breaking out on. He's 23 this year and we may finally have a 99 line male lead worth watching out for. This is the dullest 20s line of actors and actresses I've ever seen in kdrama land.

      • I hold my pee finishing all series in one go. The series is super, and please don't be difficult. Do u think it's so easy to create such drama?

    • exactly my thought about the female lead. The actress seriously so bad. Her acting is awkward and expression not good too. Her character as Onjo the most annoying for me. People always criticize idol actor for their bad acting but rookie actor also has the same problem. Sigh
This zombie drama nothing special. Should only stay with 6 or 8 eps

  • This article reminds me of the article you did when squid game came out initially and also the comments.. It is like you just copied and edited and post

  • It was not good. There are too many characters. At the beginning, the story focused more on the villains than introduced the main characters and their relationship. I didn't really care for any character. The acting wasn't so good. Cho Yi-Hyun shoudl stop with main roles, she was bad in School 2021 too.

At the end, it's always the same message, the humans are the villains. We didn't need 12 episodes for that.
