Park Min Young and Yoo Yeon Seok in Talks for K-drama Rom-com MonWedFriTuesThursSat

It’s like a forever groundhog day for K-actress Park Min Young, but if she can deliver the product and ratings I don’t see why she can’t stick with her sweet spot. K-ent is reporting that Park Min Young has been offered the female lead in upcoming rom-com K-drama MonWedFriTuesThursSat, with the male lead currently in talks with Yoo Yeon Seok. It’s a suitable pairing choice but that’s about it with any first impression. The drama is about an agency that provides a fake wife/girlfriend for men to bring to work events or weddings or any accompaniment where they need to have a date. The drama will be from the PD of 100 Days My Prince and air in the second half of 2022.

  • Hasn't he made a lot of mean comments to women like you don't have a boyfriend because you don't wear revealing clothes? And rubbish like If a woman doesn't wear revealing clothes to a date it means she's not interested? I don't think a rom-com will do well with him as a lead... (But I think he's a very good actor, don't get me wrong!)

      • Ruin? What are you even on about his career is thriving. And are you seriously batting for a misogynistic jerk.

      • Wait, is that comment for me? I didn't record him in a bar when he was chatting with friends, he's the one who said it ON TV. How exactly is this trying to ruin him, I don't know.

He's a public figure, he should be aware that what he says has an impact on how people perceive him because we don't know him plus rom-com's success in Korea depends also on leads avoiding any scandal at ALL, that's what I'm saying.

How about you take a breath and actually focus on what I wrote in my first message. It was not a lot, so if you focus hard you'll manage, fighting!

  • I thought PMY's change of agency signalled she wanted to take her career in a different direction but guess not.

    • A little disappointed that it's a modern rom-com instead of a sageuk. But she hasn't accepted yet though I think acting opposite Yoo Yeon Seok, who has tv, movie, and theatre cred, can be tempting.

    • My observation on her current agency, it is not an agency who actively looking for diverse roles for their artists. It relies on the artist's relationship and reputation with the people in the industry. eg. YYJ's role in Minari came through her friend who is friend with the director, Lee Isaac Chung. Lee Seung Gi's career are mostly on TV, cos that's where his career grew, not movie. The only positive side, I think Hook gives more freedom for the artist to decide on the project that they want to take.

  • So more romcoms from her despite the agency change? Yawn. She's not an incredibly good actress and tends to overact, plus romcoms are a dead end road for actresses/actors. But I guess there's not much else she can do. I thought she'd go for more of the variety route but guess not (yet).

  • She's just playing it safe too much at this stage. I like her, I do but she's not challenging herself at all. I'd love to see her take on more challenging roles sort of like what Jang Nara does but I guess we keep hoping.

    • Agreed. I'm wondering if rom-coms are the only type of script she's being offered these days, but I hope she'll choose more diverse roles from now on.

  • This sounds like a funny/light premise I just wish another actress with better comedic timing was cast or . This is an unpopular opinion, but I don't think romcoms are for her plus I didn't think she had any chemistry with her male leads but PSJ and KJW did a better job in selling the romance. I do think she's very good with melodrama's though I especially loved her performance in when the weather is fine.

I agree with the comment about romcom being too safe. She's doesn't seem to be challenging herself at this point. Idk there's just soo many genres to explore like even a women centric show.

    • I think your opinion about her fitting melodrama is a minority. Ratings speaks for themselves. Her melodrama works didn't do well ratings wise. It's the rom com works of hers that works with general crowds

      • Her private life didn't have good ratings though you could say that even the drama relied more on her wwwsk success and star power since she's more famous than Kim jae wook. But park seo joon always secures good ratings with his romcoms as other than wwwsk he also had hits with she was pretty and fight for my way.

      • And yh personally idc for ratings ofcourse I'd love for my fav actors to have hits but if the drama is acclaimed and their performance is good idc. My recent fav drama lost had very low ratings but meh.

    • Omg I'm with you @Kailey b. I personally think romcoms aren't her thing. She doesn't have comedic timing and tends to overact/appear false/unnatural in all of the romcoms roles I've seen her in. Can't get into her romcom roles cause she doesn't seem to embody the character. Which is probably why her romcom roles all appear to meld into one another and come across the same.

And yes to her lack of chemistry with PSJ and KJW. I dropped both cos the plot was bad, but both actors just sold the romance side of things way better. Same with Healer/JCW as well.

Agreed on her doing melo! She was good in weather is fine and I liked her in Queen for 7 days. She delivers more serious, grounded characters better.

Also lol @ ppl on this site who constnatly like to go off on ratings but can't seem to understand ratings don't mean much. Especially when you dont even have the stats as to what those percentages mean. Do those percentages take into account viewers who only tune in for 5 minutes? How about viewers who leave it on in the background? Unfortunately, viewing does not equal engagement. If anything, those % capture people who tune in to "view" but aren't really engaging.

  • Knetizens were criticising the plot saying this type of story doesn't fits in 2022. They are objectifying women when sk incel culture is getting high at an alarming rate

  • I like YYS and if that pairing happens he will be the only reason I will watch their drama but I miss seeing him in villain roles.
Good luck to his next project.

  • Hopefully in 2-3 years time when she's near 40, she'll finally choose projects without romance lol. The actor is super bland and has made gross remarks about women, so I'm definitely going to skip this.

  • Please don't shoot me. I actually fell asleep watching YYS in HP and Warm and Cozy. So damn disappointed if PMY starred in another rom-com. I feel like she could do well in an action comedy thriller drama with a light romance as the side plot. As she's fab in pilates, she could be a jewel thief with a smexy detective hot on her trail. Yeon Woo Jin is wasted in 39 drama. I like to see him with PMY or SIG. Both guys can deliver comedy to counter balance PMY's straight-laced personality.
