Flogging a dead horse might be an apt analogy for what is going on here but it feels like using this euphemism is an insult to the euphemism. Cable network jTBC has filed a lawsuit against online K-netizens who it accused of falsely spreading allegations that the drama Snowdrop distorted South Korean history. K-netizens wanted the drama cancelled claiming the story of a North Korean spy in South Korean falling in love with a college student in the democracy movement was exactly the falsehood used by the then dictatorship to crack down on the democracy protests. Turns out the drama had the first part but no one believed the guy was pretending to be a democracy activist as the North Korean spies and soldiers revealed themselves early on and took an entire girl’s college dorm hostage. So the drama turned into a Stockholm Syndrome story set in one place (a girl’s dorm) where all the leaders on both sides SUCKED and basically it was one plodding circle spin until the rocks fall down ending. So while jTBC had a point that the drama didn’t distort history it could have revealed the plot to allay the early concerns but then it would have shot itself in the foot by showing what a stupid plot it was. Rock, meet hard place. Anyhoo, this is really just water under the bridge now because even the fans of the drama are hard pressed to say it’s ratings would have been much higher without the controversy since quality was also lacking in the full run.

Lmao, thats embarrassing. JTBC just needs to let this one go… literally.
It doesn't surprise me jtbc would do this, they certainly didn't handle anything regarding Snowdrop well, but netizens aren't the reason for the low ratings. Let it go.
They probably expected ratings in the double digits given the writer's previous drama but it turned out to be both a ratings and PR fiasco, netizens aren't the reason for the former though (all that goalpost-shifting talk about "good ratings for jtbc in 2021!!" seems extra cringe now). Being seen as harassing netizens who dared to criticise it won't do JTBC any favours.
I mean, the writer herself was giving interviews saying she wanted to show the NSA (torture agency) as "ordinary humans too"...I know the automatic reaction from international fans is to dismiss any concerns raised by knetizens as just being dramatic and "antis" blah blah BUT it was their country's history and they had a point here since the hero was literally written as an NK spy! I mean, imagine an American drama set in the 1960s portraying their civil rights movement as being infiltrated by Soviets....and then think of the reaction to that. JTBC is probably trying to intimidate those who spoke out.
Exactly. International fans always act high and mighty, as if they're any better lmao

JBTC needs a new Comms team. They could've significantly mitigated initial netizen backlash with proper comms, but instead their responses just poured fuel onto the fire and now they're resurrecting a dead horse.
LMAO at this ?
The drama isn't even a hit, why are they doing too much lol ?
What's next, they're going to sue the NSA victims who spoke out against the drama too? Pathetic.
JTBC, just take the L and let it goooo ?
Let it go, Let it go,
Turn away and slam that door
They won goodwill with 39 drama and FLAW, not they're trying a lame move.
Exactly. They finally had solid ratings with these dramas..why do they care about Snowdrop at this point?
Knetz on sites like theqoo are still sh!tting on the drama & cast and claiming it distorted history despite not having watched the show. Maybe that's why jtbc is finally doing this
I don't think they're wrong. Snowdrop suffered a lot of the critics when they didn't released yet. They needed to change their schedule. The crew and the actors suffered a lot. They lost an actress...
About the theme, I don't have issue when the point of view is changed, the world is not all black or all white. There are stories that showed not every nazi was a monster.
By "they lost an actress," are you implying that Kim Mi-soo's death is connected to the controversy faced by the show?
I'm all for this! Good luck JTBC! Netizen should not overreact and demand for the drama to stop production all together purely on their own speculation when they got nothing to go by especially when they have not seen the end product yet. Overreacting much and causing so much bad press.
