This isn’t a sequel and now it’s not even a true prequel to tvN 2021 fantasy drama Tale of Gumiho (Tale of the Nine-tailed). It’s called Tale of Gumiho:1938 and from the date everyone thought it would deal with the lives of immortal gumiho leads Lee Dong Wook and Kim Bum from that era. Now the spoiler is out that it deals with present day Lee Yeon and Lee Rang after their happy-ish ending at the end of the original drama and somehow a portal opens up and they time-travel back to 1938 to interact with new female lead Kim So Yeon. What happens there causes another rift between the brothers which makes no sense because they repaired the rift already and the drama could have just used their selves from 1938 which still hated each other. I guess what they learned the first time around will come in handy in this time-travel scenario. Whatever the case, at least there will be pretty period sets and period costumes to enjoy.

The original was interesting but somehow I couldn't keep my interest till the very end. I wonder how this will stack up. KSY's role should be a meaty one.
I don't like when they make a prequel, sequel or anything else that needs to destroy the original drama. I don't think it was story what needed a new drama. The world setting wasn't so great, neither the characters.
That was this kind of drama, that started amazing - smart female lead, pretty male lead, and an adorable baddie. It ended crappy tho - the brother got his sins (murders!) forgiven, and all the deaths that happened were less important than a girl.
Little bro gumiho died at the end and then reincarnated as a little kid (which didn't make sense since don't you end up as a baby first?). So would this take place somewhere around episode 14 of the original? Or would this be like 20 years after the ending?
The bickering between the bros was interesting to watch, but the little bro's resentment ended up being sort of a drag after awhile.

The news offered plenty of information about the FOUR LEADS in the show but this article only touches on one thing and is not even reported correctly.
Lee Yeon travels back to the past where he ends up meeting Lee Rang IN THE PAST who still bears a grudge against him.
