Upcoming Live-action Taiwan Movie Adaptation of Famed Japanese Horror Manga Artist Junji Ito’s Works Release Grotesque First Teaser Pictures

In honor of this being Halloween October 31st, it feels fitting to post about an upcoming horror movie that will be a first as it’s a Taiwanese production. Famed horror mangaka Junji Ito is having his major stories adapted into a TW-movie live action that started filming earlier this year and this week released the first two stills. It’s really macabre and scary so click to see after the click, the first is a the girl with the slug tongue and the other is of course his most famous work Tomie, the girl who cannot die. The movie is called Smart Town and is a compilation of these characters in a really creepy setting with new flourishes. There is also a Netflix animated series coming out next month called Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre so this author is clearly having a revival of sorts for his brand of creepy body horror.

  • I had no clue about this, I love Junji Ito’s mangas. The casting and imagery for both these characters are on point. Hopefully we finally get good adaptations of his work. Thanks for sharing!
