Shin Hyun Bin Crowned the Ignominious Title of Most Hated Female Lead in a Mega Hit Drama Due to the Unfortunately Forced Love Line

K-actress Shin Hyun Bin is facing the opposite audience feedback of second female lead Park Ji Hyun in Reborn Rich which has increased as the drama ratings have gone up and heading into the finale. This may feel like been there-covered that old news but if you’re in South Korea it’s legit a major commentary volume on any RR thread and apparently on water cooler discussions. Park Ji Hyun as the bitchy power hungry daughter-in-law has the “bad person” character but is breaking out with her performance and interesting role similar in Han So Hee as the mistress in The World of the Married. Conversely the annoyance and frustration with Shin Hyun Bin in both her performance and her character in RR continues to garner negative feedback for her to the degree that K-ent critics think she will be negatively impacted by this drama despite it being the biggest hit of 2022. That’s really rare, usually everyone in a hit drama enjoys the groundswell of positive popularity so that’s why this situation is getting repeated coverage because it’s rarely ever happened and definitely not to a lead role. In episode 15, Song Joong Ki’s character asked to get back to Shin Hyun Bin’s character during a prosecutor interrogation and everyone was head desking at how random it was and how unfathomable it was that he liked her so much.

  • This drama already no.1 broke record the world of the married i am so happy for lee seung min and song joong ki set high rating 29-30%!for jtbc comeback aftef so many flop since 2020.

    • Nope! It did not. World of the Married still no. 1. Final episode only got
26.94% while WOTM got 28.37% in nationwide ratings . The 30% you mentioned is in Seoul ratings only. The top viewership ratings will be based in National and not in Seoul ☺️

  • Why mad at her, should be mad at the script writer, they wrote the story, poor her, she's supposed to be the leading actress but her scene are so little she come off as the extra

  • Their loveline doesn't bother me like I see it bothering so many others. It is what it is. I'm just enjoying yhe phenomenal performances by almost everybody in the cast amd the fact I haven't gotten tired of it unlike many others. So did the grandma kill the original Do Jun?

  • She doesn't have a lot to do and still managed to be bland during these scenes. She's has no charisma/aura on screen.

    • This... I find it so weird that she has blown up career wise over the past 2 years. I hope she is shielded from actual hate though.

Park Ji Hyun is incredible and absolutely deserves to have the Han So Hee glow up. I think antagonists are genuinely more interestingly written these days because main leads tend to be uninteresting do gooders.

  • Exactly the same reaction as cnetz, lol. It’s funny to see knetz and cnetz share a brain on this topic. With every episode, there’s a bunch of complaint posts about the FL, everything from the acting, to her character being unhelpful (pulling the ML’s backleg), to people scratching their head about the romance.

  • Seriously speaking I don't get the reason for the hate, she only had limited screen time, she isn't special but not bad either, but how so? She has only limited lines and her character's impact on plot is small to be either way.
I even feel she was being cheated by the writer and PD. She is supposed to be FL? Please stop the hate because it doesn't make any sense

  • I have seen her in 5 projects now and my assessment is that she is very lackluster. She is not a bad actress but she just doesn't shine bright when there are people around her with meatier roles or better presence. In Reflection of You, Goo Hyun Jung ran circles around her despite Shin Hyun Bin's character being the victim. I was pissed with her there too. She needs to carefully pick her roles. I think her character in Hospital Playlist is the kind of role that allows her to be likable.

    • Go hyn jung is an iconic actress with 2 decades under her belt. Dramas like sandblast, queen sounded. You can't even begin to compare the two . Of course she would act circles around her

      • Yes but there are quite a few actors/actresses who can shine despite acting with veteran colleagues. I believe that's the point of the comment above. Looking at other highly-rated dramas like Reborn Rich, there's Siwan in Misaeng, Kim Tae Ri in Mr. Sunshine, etc.. Even Park Ji Hyun scenes with Lee Sung Min and other older cast members was better. Shin Hyun Been just doesn't have the on-screen charisma that others her age or younger do.

  • Is she? Plenty of people didn't have a problem with her and she was consistently popular in Korea during this time.

A minority that is very loud shouldn't be considered as relevant, especially as their screeching reached the levels of mentally ill people showing off their obsession.

  • I saw a lot of complaints that her acting here just feels like she's playing Jang Gyeo-ul again and I have to agree. She got really lucky with that Hospital Playlist casting because dull and gloomy seems to be the full extent of her acting range.

The writing for the love line was an obvious problem but it doesn't excuse the poor acting. She didn't have much screen time but it's impressive how she managed to sap all the life out of such an intense and interesting drama every time she appeared.

When the casting rumors were swirling I had been glad that she got the role over the initial pick. I fully admit my judgement was wrong. At least they would've brought some energy to the role.

Given the overwhelmingly negative feedback across all platforms, I hope she won't get more female lead castings in the future. It's not like she's some A-list whose fans and star power can make up for their bad acting.

  • I haven't gotten around to watching this because of exams but damn it takes A LOT for the female lead to be bashed this bad in such a popular show. dunno if its all the screenwriters or its mostly her acting, but I will say that joongki compliments his costars really well in everything so.........😶
