Yang Mi and Dilraba Dilmurat Both Start Filming New C-dramas Choosing Darker Suspense Fare with Harbin 1944 and Sword Rose

Last month in April 2023 two top C-drama actresses happened to start new drama filming at the same time so it’s getting busy in Hendian again. Dilraba Dilmurat came back from a hiatus last year and is all cylinders firing with CFs and attending events and back to drama filming. She’s in a kidnapping detective procedural titled Sword Rose about a team focused solely on finding kidnapped kids. Yang Mi is also picking a darker more serious drama as she started filming Harbin 1944 and playing a seemingly bad character, I’m guessing a Japanese sympathizer on the surface but a patriot underneath. I’m glad they are finding dramas that stretch and challenge but both also have period dramas already filmed still waiting to get release dates for fans of their more idol fare.

  • They are both getting into more serious dramas now, which is a good thing because there's a hierarchy for actors and actresses based on the type of drama themes they acted in.

  • They are aging out and trying to transform which is a good thing. Personally I don't think either one is going to do particularly well because the acting just isn't there. I have heard nothing good about Prosecution Elite, on the contrary and Zi's Psychologist didn't go down any better among the non-fan crowd. I wish them luck though. It is not easy being a woman in this business.

      • There are good scripts. Just that those good scripts are often in dramas that international audience aren't interested in.

      • That is a legitimate huge problem in cent, I agree. It has been discussed even by some very accomplished actors that it is so difficult to find a good one. I don't know what the solution is but if the top has issues, then anyone mid, like these two are going to find it even harder.

      • @Anon agree.

@Yuyi The audience decides the quality. For example, Till The End Of The Moon is a disappointment, but it got an 8.9 on MyDramaList. Also, there are good productions from China that are not usually released with subtitles. Chinese entertainment sells what the public generally likes: fast-food productions.

  • It's good to diversify acting career choices. It gives more space for them to work out on the creativity side of their acting by trying different genres. It's also good to act in idol/costume drama, I do think every genre has its own charms. Gives you different experience every time.
