Woo hoo, summer is here in earnest as basically every school is out and also the sun is out where I live after months of unseasonably cold and overcast conditions. Also there are two new lighter side romance dramas that dropped today with tvN premiering fantasy drama See You in My 19th Life and jTBC releasing King the Land. 19th Life got 4.272% ratings which are decent with room for improvement while King the Land was the surprise bigger hit with 5.075% which makes it the second highest premiere for jTBC on the Sat-Sun time slot. I’ve watched both and as expected it’s totally up my alley so I’m excited finally for K-dramas to return front and center to my watch rotation.

I have seen first two episodes of both and I like them, each in their own way. I prefer to binge because I have been burned one too many times by kdrama writers botching the end so will wait but I will watch both. I actually prefer King of the land because it is a funny, romcom cliche done by hot people and tbh, for relaxing in a stressful summer, it is perfect so that one is first in line.
I’d say the k-pop idols have an edge over the competition due to their popularity. KOL’s first episode was nothing exciting. Maybe it’ll get better in subsequent episodes. I’m already in love with 19th Life’s young actress, and her “niece”. Can’t wait to see more. Pretty Shin Hye Sun is giving this fabulously cool vibe, and she’ll deliver as always.
I'll check these two out after wrapping up Where Dreams Begin. I'm too busy to watch multiple dramas at the same time. Junho used to be my 2PM bias and I naturally checked out his projects from time to time. Thanks for keeping us posted.
I was really looking forward to KTL and I've watched the first episode and only got a bit into the second episode before dropping it. It's cute and all, but the script is beyond predictable and I have no idea why Junho picked This particular one. Maybe it gets better later on, and I'm reserving final judgement till a few more eps are out but my excitement has waned...
Yoona is doing okay, and Junho is trying to give his character a little depth but there doesn't seem to be anything much to work with, and the editing and direction is so lame that even his comedic timing doesn't get properly shown. Such a shame after how hilarious he was in Good Manager and the funny TRS moments.
I really do hope this drama gets better soon. I want it to be good. Been waiting since it was announced. Don't want both LSY and LJH's post TRS stuff to be duds.
Aiye, I’m dropping this and staying on sidelines until good feedback is given when drama finishes. I forced myself to finish ep.2, hoping something interesting will happen towards the end, something that will pique my interest. Nope, all I see is pretty Yoona, Junho in sexy well tailored suits, beautiful hotel rooms, scenery. Agree that script is too predictable.
Is lee seyoung post drama, the law cafe? I agree that it’s dud. I think this one is better for the start, but I highly doubt It’ll become another masterpiece like the red sleeve. There’s not much to work on for rom com but I hope this one can become one of my fav
Although Junho is my 2PM bias. His past drama projects did not impress me at all until The Red Sleeves. I haven't watched KTL yet but am planning to. Welp! I hope he consistently gets good projects not just a one-time breakout.
KTL is definitely my type of rom-com. It’s completely ridiculous and predictable and a little cringeworthy. But JH as a chaebol is great and Yoona is a good in this type of role. I have pretty low expectations. It kinda reminds me of Hyun Bin’s roles where his character always has some sort of childhood trauma. Will be interesting to see how this one plays out. I haven’t watched SHS’s drama yet as I want to wait a little before binge watching it. I have liked her previous dramas so I am betting that I will like this one as well.
Just a question: isn’t “king the land” just a reworking of the Japanese manga and subsequent j-drama ‘Ousama ni Ssasagu kusuri” ? I quite like it…it’s nothing new, but then one Mills&Boon novel is more or less like the next.
I find it interesting to see the changing camara directions, screen cuts and improved SGI. The acting is ok but nothing special but most Korean dramas required a few episodes for the actors to find their ‘Acting chops’
I will check out ‘ see you in my 19th life” when time permits.
Wait till Revenant, Miss Durian, and Numbers enter the picture....
Revenant is so scary I wonder how many people will actually watch it at night. Especially during summer. Would have made more sense to release in Winter.
You will be surprise, especially with Koreans. And don't forget the leads and the writers are excellent.
JTBC last drama ended with great ratings, it usually helps the following one for the first week.
King The Land is 100% a rom-com, so a lot of its sucess will rest on the chemistry of the actors. For now, the first 2 episodes were good but not fantastic.
See You in My 19th Life was more interesting with characters with a purpose.
The fact both dramas have a hotel for setting with a battle of power is kinda troublesome. It will be hard to not mix the stories.
