Kim Hye Yoon and Byun Woo Seok Confirmed for tvN Time Travel Healing Romance Drama Running Away with Sun Jae on Piggyback

Wow, I can see this very drama premise triggering since it deals with a very distressing act that sets things in motion. Hopefully there is a trigger warning and then the rest of the drama tries its darnedest to make it not happen. tvN has scheduled a new drama with the literal title Running Away with Sun Jae on Piggyback and it will star similar age leads Kim Hye Yoon and Byun Woo Seok. The drama deals with a top star Sun Jae who is worn down by his entertainment career and commits suicide. His biggest fan girl gets her own traumatic healing from listening to his songs on the radio and is despondent over his passing. She time travels back 15 years to when Sun Jae is 19 years old and resolves to change his future to ensure the same tragedy doesn’t happen again. The drama is adapted from a source novel and tentatively will air before the end of 2023.

  • tvN has lined up all the youth dramas for their second half Mon-Tue dramas. They haven't been having the best year but starting from MLL to TW to Sunjae all the dramas sound amazing with amazing casts. Less excited about their weekend fare because of the sheer number of sequals. Only Diva sounds remotely interesting. The 2024 tvN weekend line up has more potential than their current one. Anyways this sounds super cute and traumatic at the same time. The height difference is massive though so poor KHY and her neck.

  • I'm glad to see Kim Hye Yoon being back. However, I'm not sure how I feel about the premise of the lead committing suicide. I think the writing needs to be sensitive and spot on to make it work for the overall drama.

Plus time travelling makes really no sense. If she resolves the issue in the past then she has no reason to travel back in time to solve it. Here as well the writing needs to be good or at least the drama needs to sell it well.

In any case I'm looking forward to it.

    • The manga Orange has a similar plot.

      [Spoilers]

      [Spoilers]

Female lead and friends send their younger selves a letter to save male lead from suicide. But, in the end, the time travel paradox was explained as them effectively creating a new timeline where the male lead survives his attempt and ends up with the female lead.

  • What novel is this adapted from? The synopsis sounds a lot like 娱乐圈是我的[重生], but that's unlikely, right, since it's a Chinese novel?

    • Same thoughts, they're already delusional enough without dramas like this fueling their fantasies lmao

  • The webtoon is called Best of Tomorrow and spoiler ahead..

The guy takes wrong dosage of medication and ends up dead, not suicide. The drama is a mixture of past and present. I adore Kim Hye Yoon. She is very eccentric and barely chooses projects because of her nature so I hope this is done well. Because she will dip out again after the drama.

  • Definetely very hard story to tell. The writers would have to be very careful and how the suicide part is shown. Every year theres so many suicide news so it may really upset the bereaved. Ive always like Kim Hye Yoon. And I do hope this comes out well
