So while I was getting my final spooky dose of Revenant fill yesterday with the final episode airing on SBS, over on tvN the network premiered The Uncanny Counter 2 taking over for See You in My 19th Life. This second season was highly anticipated when the original wrapped with over 10% ratings on OCN and even moved to the bigger cable network tvN for that broader exposure. But then the bully scandal happened with male lead Jo Byung Gyu and now this drama is coming back two years after the original and the first episode started off with 3.949% ratings which is low for a drama with a built in prior audience and IP. It’s too early to tell what the reason is, as it went up against the final episode of Revenant which ended with 11% ratings and also reportedly the final few episodes of the original drama was also on a decline in storytelling from the first 2/3 of the drama, but K-netizens seem to think the reason is that viewers are checked out with Jo Byung Gyu and not tuning in because he’s the male lead.

Celebrities should always be careful in choosing the theme of their return project after a scandal. Jo Byung Gyu's role in The Uncanny Counter started as a bullied student, and he was accused of bullying. Kim SeonHo was initially offered the ML for that historical romance drama as his comeback drama from his ex-gf/abortion scandal, and word is they were having difficulty securing an FL. Hence it didn't pan out. Or maybe LBH after his infidelity issue will portray a loyal and loving husband as his return project.
coz it's catered for the younger generation who doesn't watched tv but watch it on streaming sites like Netflix thus it has lower ratings on TVN. it's only 2 eps but its already no. 4 in our country and it's already no. 3 in south Korea Netflix. It's not about the scandal you are just checking 1 source which is not the watching sites of the younger generation.
I tried to watch the first ep of season2 and can't last beyond 10mins. They made the ML character indescribably powerful and the other counters seem so weak they can't do anything without him. The hero play was too much and no proper story building beside ML saving the world with weak sidekicks. I don't see the point to continue so I check out.
The second season is great!!! The cinematography feels like a big budget hollywood movie and the CG has improved by leaps and bounds. Its well written, fast paced and the wardrobe and styling has also gotten better. Its No.1 on TVING today by a huge lead and thats the target audience the drama was aiming for anyways. 18-30 age group. Nielsen will become a thing of the past soon with ppl tuning in via handhelds instead of TV. I for one have not watched TV for 3+ years.
you don't read manwha ha?! or watched superhero movies like the "Marvel". It's all about the hero and the rest are NPC that make the hero more great. If you don't like that kind of genre then this is not your cup of tea.
They are just following the source material. So Mun is a multi and the only counter who was not from a comatose state before his appointment hence his unnaturally strong super powers.
That's because story building happened in Season 1? He was a weak human who discovered and learned to control his powers in the first season. They already talked about why he was unique and would be more powerful than all of them. Nobody needs a second season of him still figuring all that crap out.

It’s 5.4% percent for ep 2, Koala. Please do your research first before stating something in your blog. Apparently K-Netz doesnt care about the bullying accusation
5.4% is still underwhelming for a former hit drama on its second season. For context, the episode 2 ratings of previous TVN weekend series recently are: 5.4% for 19th Life (a flop), 7.1% for Nine-Tailed, 5.7% for Pandora, 5.8% for Crash Course, 7.8% for Alchemy S2, 9.1% for Umbrella, 7.7% for Little Women, 5.9% for Alchemy S1, 8.7% for Blues, 8.0% for 2125, and 5.8% for Immortal Souls.
Thats because its on simulcast on Netflix/TVN/TVING. The ratings on TVING are massive. Netflix is also going strong.
you don't get it. this is based on an action manwha which is catered for the young gen who don't watch tv but watch on streaming sites. it's based on a manwha n has super powers n stuff where the older gen don't like. the ratings here r based on tv. the last time I watched tv was b4 Netflix exist. I used my tv by casting streaming sites where the ratings on tv don't count. so your argument is not valid at all.
It is not a flop. Many dramas have started with 0%-4% and rise to 17% and more.
The first episode for S2 is even higher than the first one. Mind you.
JBY's situation is sad. His accuser won't come in Korea to give his statement. I think the issue is that the first season aired in 2020-2021, so there was a big gap between the 2 seasons. But 4% is not bad at all.
The first two episodes are solid! The cinematography and effects are movie level. The story for this season is also very engaging with 3 villains. Also, happy to see Kang Ki Yong getting recognized given meaty roles because this guy is talented.
What is sad is when a rumor , an accusation,...is spread the reputation of a person even more when it's a celebrity, is tainted . Presumption of innocence doesn't exist anymore . No wonder that a lot of agencies don't tolerate anymore any detrimental comments towards their stars and take legal action .
Won't affect much since TUC is a Netflix original. That said tough it is doing crazy ratings on TVING and its also reached No.1 on Netflix in Saudi, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam. Show is slaying. P.s - did notice for the BTS they showed very little on JBG and seems like the promotional runs will likely be carried by Kim Sejeong, Kim Hioera and Kang Ki Yong.
Actually the premiere for season 2 was a bit stronger than the premiere for season 1. So, people are tuning in. If season 2 can surpass the success of season 1 I'm not sure and only time will tell.
