So the casting shaker went back to tumbling after earlier rumors of the leads for the C-drama adaptation of Offering Salted Fish to Master (Xian Yu) and now it’s confirmed with totally different stars. Chen Fei Yu and Ju Jing Yi will be pairing up for this highly anticipated by fans project based on a popular novel. The filming is scheduled to start in December and for Chen Fei Yu who spent all that time filming BL novel adapted Immortality with Luo Yun Xi only to see that shelved permanently/indefinitely this will be a high profile foray back to period drama land.

I love watching ju jingyi regardless of some criticisms leveled at her. But I wish she has another pairing…. At least someone who can be paired with her in real life. Just a fantasy of mine.
🤣🤣🤣
This drama might be her big break. Chen Feiyu's connections will ensure this drama gets a good production team.
Koala has been feeding me quite a bit of news I'm interested in. I look forward to more dramas from Arthur Chen. But I don't know what to say about JJY. She's not an actress I appreciate, specifically her styling in all her dramas. But I'll check out this drama. Perhaps script and directing are good enough for me to like.
JFC. In what world does that kid up there look like a master of anything?
Casting in Chinese and Korean dramas is so annoying.
Well if u decide to follow this part of entertainment, it something u will have to tolerate, it is what it is.
Looks like Authur's career is no longer affected by the mishap he had to undergo by the husband of a ex-gf. At least that is dealt with properly.
That's expected since his dad is a director. You'll survive any scandal if you have powerful backings, as long as you didn't break the law.
For other actors who can't depend on nepotism like Arthur Chen I wonder what they have to exchange for that powerful backing. For women and maybe for men aswell it's likely Harvey Weinstein type deals if they are not a top star. Or maybe the actors need to share their earnings with the backer. Or actors once they get famous and have a large enough fan base they make deals to harvest and take advantage of their fan base by endorsing and selling random products from random companies related to the backer to rabid fans. C-ent is the only place that I have seen actors selling stuff directly on shopping channels it's quite hilarious lol. The ones that don't make these kind of dubious deals get cancelled.
I feel that is so too. His dad whitewash the news very quickly, Authur is a cast in his new epic movie The Great War (2023). Such a movie will make a 'hero' out of any actor.. It helps Authur can deliver... his acting skills are no bad.
Having a powerful management agency helps too. But one must be worth the bother to pull those strings...
@Rrrt well from what I heard they usually sign gambling contract. I think the most often I heard doing that is zhao lusi. She gets so much resources but in exchange the works needs to complete certain standard. I don’t know what will happen if she fails, slave contract maybe? Maybe she would need to work for them with minimal pay split. But considering her works popularity she isn’t losing money, winning her bets
@Yuhyi, what is a 'gambling contract'?? Wow, so many different code names for different type of contracts now. I know of 'slave contract' only..
Zhou Lusi has just left her old company...anyone knows who she will sign with next? I bet she will open her own studio as many artiste do.
@Yuhyi thanks for the reply I think I understand. So the actors take help and resources from investors in advance and actors bet on their drama being a hit so that those investments can be repaid with profit. If the drama flops and actors can't repay that investment then maybe the investor owns/has full control of the actor's career for X number of years or they have to complete X number number of productions and the actor no longer have a choice. It sounds like a debt trap.
So my dream of watching Dylan and Lu si is now crushed. They were rumored to be casting together before
Yeah, I too was hoping this rumor would be true. It would be great because the acting would be phenomenal.
I would have preferred Xu Kai and Landy Li from Starry Love for this.
Idk how I feel about this.
Hmm compared to gong jun-wu jinyan pairing, I think this one is more interesting. Chen feiyu could act at least. Ju jingyi hmm.. I’m not sure but I think the male lead will carry this drama while she just be salted fish lmao. So I think it’s pretty good
I hope the script will be good
I'm just wondering how much they're gonna change the story so it will pass the censors. I read the translated novel after the other post and I found it very hard to accept the ML's murderous behavior.
Since it's Arthur Chen's drama, I did dig in the novel a bit. I think Arthur Chen fits the character way better than Gong Jun. Arthur has acting chops to deliver nuanced emotions but I haven't seen that in GJ's numerous dramas so far. The hero in the novel is an interesting character.
I think Arthur has better caliber to handle that.
Arthur did quite decent jobs in his past few dramas, although I only managed to finish The Lighter and Princess in which he's very impressive IMO. In another drama I didn't get to finish, he costarred with one of the worst C actresses, Cheng Xiao, and it didn't help that the script/directing wasn't good either. He got good reviews for Ever Night. It all depends on whom he costars with and most importantly, the writing and the directing. I hope this new drama has good script writing and directing and JJY will be ok although I do not have high expectation for her acting and styling (LOL).
He may be hoping for a breakout drama to get him on the roll of liuliang. I do think he is a more talented actor than quite a few liuliang actors currently. I don't care about his private and dating life as long as he doesn't commit crimes. I don't care about if he's got a powerful dad or strong network in the C-ent industry. None of the factors above matters in my assessment of an actor. I hope he will have a breakout hit bcos I bet on his acting potential.
I personally noticed many new young actors may look good but they are really awkward at romance dramas. Unless it is the Cool, no emotion and tough guy look, many of the male artiste just cannot relax and really 'romance' the female co-stars well... Just my observation.
Arthur is not Patrick Dempsey, but his best romance role might be in the movie Yesterday once more. He did justice to the character in Lighter and Princess and turned the annoying Woody Mary Sue novel male lead character into something watchable and human.
@Faria Begum, where can I watch movie Yesterday? Thanks.
Arthur delivered a broody, sullen genius with angst pretty convincingly in Lighter and Princess. I personally ran into quite a few STEM geeks and boffins on campus, genius level. Arthur did exude the kinda aura in L&P. LOL. His portrayal in that drama was nuanced. Therefore, I saw his potential to be a great actor given more opportunities. Anyhow, I'll check out his dramas and movies to see if I'm correct.
@somebody Yesterday Once More is available on Youtube. You can also watch on Kisskh dot co (not com).
As a STEM geek myself, I do find them to be extremely unrealistic in dramas to the point of being annoying and cartoonish. Lighter and Princess was the only drama I was able to finish (90% probably because of the visuals).
@Faria Begum, It's available on YT. That's great. Thanks. I attended an elite tech univ. and majored in STEM myself. I did find a few genius fellow students with an aloof look similar to Arthur in L&P. They just did not have his visuals. LMAO.
I did not know who Arthur Chen Fei Yu was until I watched Gold Panning. When I watched, I thought, here's a pretty boy actor who is not afraid to get dirt on his face and clothes on a regular basis. Many times pretty idol actors only put a little smudge but he looked like a semi-hardworking labor (compared to the others) who worked in the mines in that series. Arthur may have gotten a lead through his gold spoon connection but he is improving and is not afraid of taking criticism. I couldn't say that about some other C-actors who are way more popular than him but can't act nor are they improving with every project.
I think he will be great in his upcoming Movie with his Dad... Back to basic...
