Wi Ha Joon and Jung Ryeo Won Cast in PD Ahn Pan Seok’s Next Drama Graduation

So PD Ahn Pan Seok really loves illicit affairs haha, but manages to make the covert lovers always come across as made for each other and gets the viewers to root for them. There is Secret Love Affair, Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food, and Spring Night, all just loving shot and brilliantly acted. Up next is his K-drama Graduation which this week cast Jung Ryeo Won and Wi Ha Joon. There is no cheating but there is a teacher-student romance set in the world of high stakes tutoring. PD Ahn’s dramas are all about mood and delicate unspoken emotions conveyed by action or inaction so I’m looking forward to what this two talented fresh couple will bring to his next work.

  • Ewww.

I hate noona dramas with a passion because these stupid writers and PDs seem obsessed with them. It's just bizarre to me.

    • I bet you have no problem with grown-ass adult actors being paired with underage actresses like in Bring it On Ghost and Mirror of the Witch, huh? Because it's only okay when men do it according to you lmao.

Too bad Korean productions will continue to produce noona dramas with BOTH ADULT leads. Cry harder 😂

      • Exactly. I super concur. The scene of kim so hyun sleeping on the couch with a short dress and the wind blowing the edges of the dress still haunts me when I think of the making. Gazillion men standing around making that scene happen and she's barely legal. That is my idea of sick mind. May-December romances are fine and APS does it beautifully. Every one is a masterpiece with a good reason for why they get together. The other way around is just freaking gross. Paedophile. Yuck

      • Honestly, I don’t like big age gaps even when both actors are considered adults. I could not bring myself to watch Mr. Sunshine because of the 20 year gap between LBH and KTR.

    • There is nothing wrong with noona dramas but why do they always make it student teacher? There should be different dynamic.

  • A beloved family member lost her battle with life and unalived exactly when they turned 40. I have also been around gorgeous women friends to went to depression since they felt they were older and society has no use for women after 40. That’s when I saw I hear your voice for the first time. I went headlong into the world of noona romance, a land of imagination where a woman’s worth was not tied to her age and a man even younger than her could love her so deeply. Since then whenever I feel down I watch a noona romance. Now that I am turning older myself I have realised how this trope actually helps. Showing a socially disadvantaged group to achieve love (older women are really discriminated) is always a source of happiness. In this world it does not matter that women grow old and sometimes even that is enough.

  • I like noona romances but student teacher is a turn off negl, especially when it is in a realistic environment. I can wave it off in magical settings but reality? No.

  • I trust PD nim. He always has the magical touch. SLA bring my all time favourite drama . Looking forward to bis new show!

  • I love PD APS and his dramas. He's really good to show intimacy in romance and addresses societal themes.

  • What's the name for a drama when the mâle character is much older than the female lead ? Noona romnce for women so why not Sugar oppa romance for men ?

    • cause, unfortunately, that's not an issue in our patriarchal world, and therefore, not reflected in the different entertainment industries.

Most of the time the older male character is described as knowledgeable, sophisticated and powerful. His age is not even worth mentioning. Even when paired with a much younger female it's mostly not explained in the story.
On the other hand, it's a big part in the story telling and it's discribed lengthy, when she's older than him.

Even if the story acknowledges the great age diffrence between the leads with a May- December-trope the issue is stil more dramatized when the female is older than the male.

We are surrounded by so much stereotypes that we often are so used to them, that we don't even realize them.

It's nothing special that he is (much) older. See how many actors get (romantic) lead roles way beyond their fortieth and count how many actresses are as equally fortunate to have a flourishing career past 40 something.
      😞

      • And then you have a lot of pick me girls defending and romanticizing the system for their oppas

        🤮🤮🤮

or thinking it's bizarre that an older women and younger man could love each other and that their sories are beeing told, too. Instead of their standard taste drama.

For me the age is not important, if a love story about consensual adults is being told beautifully (or wholesome romance between teens e.g. high school romance)

  • The synopsis I saw said they were students together and reunited when both instructors so at doesn't seem like there is going to be any questionable student-teacher relationships at least. WHJ and JWR look about the same age as he looks mature so they can convincingly play peers in their 30s IMO.

  • @Jenna Also, I used to find it cute when many of Sohyun's older male co-stars when she was minor used to call her their ideal type but now that I am older I find it creepy. Most of the time people consider those as their ideal type whom they are attracted to but seeing so many grown man calling her their ideal type was quite uncomfortable to watch.

  • Doesn’t seem like typical teacher student romance like melancholia, maybe this will be good looking at the mature visual
