It’s quite common for agencies of main lead stars to insist on a newcomer from their agency get a second or supporting role as a plus one casting for a drama to help launch the comparative new face. Producer Yu Zheng is especially known for doing and the recent C-drama Scent of Time with Zhou Ye and Wang Xing Yue was a project he plus-oned the second actress Zhao Qing as Wang Xing Yue belongs to his agency. Insiders say Yu Zheng has zeroed in on Zhao Qing as his new pet project to launch and really believed Scent of Time would be her breakout and steal Zhou Ye’s thunder. That totally did not happen, Zhou Ye actually got a career boost and conversely Zhao Qing got no buzz and instead got criticism for her promos being so heavily edited to make her look good and onscreen in the drama she instead looked rather plan. Netizens are calling it Zhao Pian (photo lies) as a pun on her name Zhao Qing. Yu Zheng is also buying searches comparing her to Zhao Li Ying before the drama aired and hooboy what a dumbass thing to do both setting expectations too high and annoying Zhao Li Ying fans to boot. Yu Zheng is trying hard to backtrack by apologizing for Zhao Qing being young and loves to eat (so she’s rounder onscreen than in her drama pictures) and also says she is getting Lasik to explain why she also was criticized for rolling her eyes by explaining she’s nearsighted. Haha.

He will move on to the next...
This YZ is good at telling jokes. From the show, she has very common looks and mediocre talents. I am surprised that she is even the second lead. At most she can handle some supporting roles.
I am even more surprised to see some comments here accepting her looks are equivalent to some known beauties…
It’s so typical of YZ to choose some common looking people, photoshop them and exalt them as raving beauties for his drama. Whereas he massacred others verbally, like Deng Wei, Zhao Lusi….
He is definitely critical of those that reject him...
I actually did feel she looks similar to Zhao Li Ying but then she was not stellar in Scent of Time. Wang Xing Yue trumped everyone there in spite of limited screen time. And he is the youngest.
Exactly. WXY is such a charismatic actor with a bright future ahead of him. I felt like both Zhou Ye and Zhao Qing were green. I didn't feel anything during their emotional scenes even though viewers were meant to empathize with Zhou Ye's character and feel anger towards Zhao Qing's.
Yang Zi and ZLS are even bigger culprits of 照骗,especially YZ, this is pretty tame editing in comparison.
She has some resemblance to Cecilia Cheung, but not as striking.
I thought she was okay, but definitely not the ethereal beauty that supposedly made three guys fall for her (I know that one was a misunderstanding). I don't think she looks like ZLY or anybody for that matter. Of course photos are going to be edited! What do netizens expect?
I found both her and Zhou Ye's acting to be quite flat. The constant close ups to their hands clenching just makes me think the director doesn't want us to be disappointed in these people's inability to convey deep emotion through their face. There were a few very emotional scenes that I thought were acceptable from Zhou Ye, but any other more seasoned actress would've brought me to tears.
I watched Scent of Time, and she actually reminds me of Cecilia Cheung but wider faced. Might be because of the rounded eyebrows. The hair styling in the show was terribly unflattering though. Her wonky eyes really didn't help matters.
Her lazy eyes distracted me so much during the show 🙈
Yang Zi edits her photos so much she is nothing like her real self. It's actually disturbing.
Zhao Lusi isn't that much better. From lengthening her legs onwards. Esther Yu also does this.
I think these are way worse examples and worth talking about.
I understand YZ she edits her face like crazy and also her body. but ZLS in raw photos look pretty much the same, filter is acceptable anywhere. For lengthening it might be angle. What I can’t forgive is when totally look different.
All the actresses in scent of time look better outside of the show. Yu Zheng should blame himself for the styling of the show.
Yu Zheng always does this. I know Michelle Chen is no xiao longnv, but did he really need to give her those two giant cones on her head. Wu Jingyan also looked like a corpse in Royal Feast with the pale makeup they put on her.
The cone was just so awful to see...
He did it to Bai Lu too in Song of Youth. Same styling
I totally agree with Koala as I thought Zhou Ye was good and likable and compelling that I rooted for her character.
Wang Xing Yue is already amazing in all the shows I had seen him in… he never fails despite his young age ……
errrrr hmmm…. who is Zhao Qing? I can’t see her resemblance to anyone in particular. Sorry I think she is totally ordinary. Okay as supporting character. That’s all……
In the show she doesn’t elicit sympathy for her character in the show, so it’s hard to recall her…
I think she is the one got caught with Xu Kai???
Yes, she is the one.
Zhao Qing has a very blank look, which I also see sometimes from Chen Duling (they both have pretty bad eyesight) and I know because I am the same lol. I think if they fix their eyesight, their expressions will get better. But having said that, CDL can still act even when she has bad eyes, so there's no excuse for ZQ - the girl just needs to act better.
ZQ isn't bad looking, no need for comparison. And being Yu Zheng's "IT" girl isn't something good. None of his proteges save for Zhao Liying has made much progress.
