Seo Ye Ji Leaves Agency Gold Medalist After Four Years and Earlier in the Month the Court Awarded Refund of Half of the Endorsement Fees From One Brand CF

It’s surreal to look back on 2020 not just as the year of COVID-19 spreading which sucks for most everyone but also a good year for some people. That year K-actress Seo Ye Ji hit the pinnacle of her career with It’s Not to Not Be Okay which airing on Netflix during the pandemic lockdown and having a fascinating female lead character with mental issues and a cool wardrobe plus a creepy secret made for an addicting watch. Male lead Kim Soo Hyun got the shot end of the stick delivering a phenomenal (as usual) performance but playing the “normal” character doesn’t make for a lot of pizzazz. So Seo Ye Ji broke out and was on her way to superstardom until the following year when she was raked over the media and netizens for being a crazy, controlling, gaslighting girlfriend to Kim Jung Hyun and a reason for his meltdown during the filming of Time. Back then it wasn’t clear if this so-called scandal would end her career but she did get dropped from projects and lost endorsements. In the last two years she did one cable drama Eve and now the lawsuit one brand lodged against her and agency Gold Medalist has come to the conclusion with the court ordering the agency to refund half of the pre-paid endorsement fee for breach of contract. That seems fair and moreover it’s clear her career will never recover to the degree it was at before the scandal, there are always new fresh talented actresses ready to pounce and get their big break (this year it’s Ahn Eun Jin, for example). And it feels like the end of an era with news that she’s left Gold Medalist after a four year stint.

  • The gaslighting was bigger, hence her lying about studying (or graduating) from Complutense was less discussed. But knowing the sensitivity to education specs in SK, that on its own would give her maybe 6-months of reflection period.

    • She played a much happier character in moorim school
School but her voice too deep and looks too mature for a teenage character. Nothing outstanding about her performance in there.

Not-Ok drama was more than OK. Very interesting character.
It was a very good performance.

But her Eve drama character was crazy. Just 50% more vindictive and depressive than her Not-Ok show.
      Doesn’t showcase any versatility.

She is a good actress but overrated perhaps

  • I already liked her acting style when she's a nugu filming Moorim School. Scandals aside (that are always controversial either you believe or you don't believe), she is a better actress than the current IT gal AEJ. Since AEJ was brought up again, sorry no sorry I have to iterate how much I dislike her acting in My Dearest. No offense to her fans.

It's bad Asian culture encourages scapegoating, be it in China or in S. Korea. In China, the most prominent victim of scapegoating is Xiao Zhan in 227 nonsense. In S. Korea, there may be many other victims that I don't know with my limited knowledge of that society. But it appears to me K fans are scapegoating SYJ for KJH's mental problems. In the West, it's adult individual's responsibility for one's own physical and mental health. But in Asia, another individual has to take blames for lousy health management of an adult? LMAO. Such a joke! If you are mentally ill, just go see a doctor!

I wish SYJ for the best and get back on her foot very soon.

    • I just read the headlines back then, and if she was blacklisted because of being a toxic girlfriend, i agree that 's excessive . Kim Sun Ho has a "scandalous relashionship" and he is rekinkling with his career , better be a man in South Korea,. But if she was a bullyer, that's another thing . The increase of bullying in many countries is no joke , and a celebrity has to be an example . But double standard makes me angry , because a lot of celebrities are still having projects despite of their scandal . the treatment should be the same for everyone ! Perso, i don't care about their private life as long as they aren't criminals ( sexual, violence abuse, murderers)

      • Yup! Think about those assholes accused of rape and came back still playing heartthrobs. LMAO so disgusting! I'm also amused how gullible fans are of all kinds of unverified accusations. I'm not saying SYJ absolutely had done nothing wrong or any said rumors were not true. I just don't care that much cos there's no way to verify online hearsay spread by netizens regardless of whether those accusers were related to SYJ at work or in any part of her life or not. These gossips were out of netizens' keyboard and vids (that could be edited too) but not coming from court conviction or police arrest, unlike some of high-profile rape accusations. LOL. But naysayers in this thread are talking as if they were juries convicting SYJ of all the crimes. The reactions of fans here are so amusing like coming from a Chinese slang : 3 aunties and 6 grannies (三姑六婆)! Totally like gossips in the alleys.

Sigh! I feel so sorry for SYJ. I just thought about what my fave Chinese actor, Xiao Zhan, had suffered cyber bully and cancelation tremendously because of rumors and fallacy spread online rampantly in 2020. Fortunately he's strong enough to get back on his feet and now is the top celebrity in C-ent (his popularity in C-ent is equivalent to BTS in S. Korea). I just thought about how much vile information spread about XZ back then and how his career almost tanked to the bottom. People are immoral and dumb, either spreading unverified rumors or believing unverified rumors.

  • Can someone give a short explanation of how she gaslighted her ex? And how this was found out?

    Just curious. Thx,

  • school bullying accusation
    power abuse to staff accusation
education forgery (misleading it for years)
    stealing money
    gaslighting
    she is an icon
and wonder why the statement they used to deny the accusation is always vague

  • education forgery (or misleading it to get image as college student)
    school bullying
    power abuse
    money stealing
yet they only highliting the gaslighting?
she is an icon for no need clear clarification and statemen

  • It’s really not a big deal until one reads the text. She was really a horrible person for a mental person. He too was a horrible person to his leading lady ( from SNSD). I felt embarrassed for her at the time. I can’t make excuse for him or this actress. I don’t like them both.

  • Sadly, it seems like she's a real-life version of the entitled, toxic female villain that we've seen in so many kdramas. Apart from everything that happened during the filming of Time, there are multiple reports of her abusive behavior towards staff members of other dramas, and I personally can't stand to watch her anymore.

    • No surprise you're so gullible of unverified rumors. You're the one spreading so much dis-information and fallacy about Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo. SMH!

    • @Marie, yes, she is toxic... Her bullying behaviour is infamous. Even after her apology, it did little to safe her reputation as she just hurt and bully too many people for too long. I have no sympathy for someone like her.

  • I haven't paid much attention to this whole thing, only read headlines. Still, canceling a person's career because she was a shitty girlfriend sounds somehow excessive.

  • She is incredibly beautiful and such a good actress. I don't know anything about the allegations so I won't comment on that part.

  • She is beautiful and a very good actress but also there is something very "off" about her from the stories that came out. Aside from the the narcissism, lies and emotional abuse of her boyfriend, the other revelations were from people she worked with and they said she is rude and a nightmare to work with on top of everything else. It's unlikely her career will recover because she alienated too many people in the industry. There are equally talented and pretty actresses who are much less troublesome to cast instead.

    • Yes, there were videos/photos of her bullying others. And she does have list of unacceptable behaviours. She did have a Press conference to apologize for her past controversy, behaviours and immaturity. And promised to showcase her maturity going forward. All are not just unfounded rumours or hearsay.

She is a talented actress but those she hurt and bullied are the ultimate victims. Even thhru she did publicly acknowledged her deeds, her apology was deem insincere thus her reputation never really recovered to her past glory. I have no sympathy for someone who bully, abuse and hurt others.

      • Her gapjil episodes were astonishing. Stealing money, faked her education, gaslighting. Her parents disgusting bullying ways with their neighbours as well. Girl was a bad egg from the start. Guess she has now split up with GM ceo as well seeing that she has left the company. Her career in SK is done. Find a rich man and get married. Thats the best thing that can happen for her rn.

      • Where are these photos/videos please do share? What press conference did she apologize at about her behavior? I'm keen to know because I never saw anything after 12 April 2021 because GM issued the apologies on her behalf and she also gave a written statement but she didn't front in person. However she did acknowledge what happened between her and ex KJH and that's it. Nothing else was proven as truth so stop spreading lies.
