So the slate of January 2024 K-drama are starting its promos and a big one will be tvN sageuk Captivating the King (Sejak or Spy) taking over after Welcome to Samdalri. Starring Jo Jung Seok and Shin Se Kyung, the drama looks visually gorgeous and the two leads are sageuk veterans and standouts in that era. He plays a prince turned king and she’s the baduk player that enchanted him but returns to his life now as a spy seeking revenge. I can’t wait to watch these two spar and fall in love but also deal with each other’s weaknesses and hidden agendas. The drama premieres Jan 21st next month.

2 things: 1) Koala, Samdal-ri is in JTBC, not TVN, so this will replace Maestra (Doctor Slump will replace Samdal-ri). 2) not sure if I am gonna stir the hornet's nest, but I feel like Shin Se Kyung is one of the more overrated main lead K-actresses around (Im Soo Hyang being another), often outshined by her male leads (Habaek, Rookie Historian) or second female leads (Run On, Black Knight). She seems to be more suitable to be second female lead than the main lead.
I am not sure how she was outshined by CEW in Rookie Historian. I have only read about CEW being trolled for his expressionless face and acting in that drama and same with the one with NJH. He was so bad in that one. So, I am quite takes back by your comment lol. I know she is not really the best actor but she seems to do a better job in historical dramas.
okay maybe outshined was not the best word choice as it may suggest that they are better actors than her. I actually meant that she kinda lacks charisma and presence, and thus the male leads were more talked about (for good or bad reasons), while she herself became just an afterthought.
Ahhhh! My body/brain is ready!!!! I have missed kdramas so much
Looking forward to this drama. I'm glad that it will available on Netflix.
