As news swirls and the shock starts to wear off with the passing of top Korean actor Lee Seon Kyun, hopefully the family can grieve in peace and start to make sense of this senseless event. He was laid to rest today on December 29th, two days after he committed suicide and I don’t know if it’s Korean culture for such speedy funerals but it feels like the mourners were massively devastated and almost catatonic. The chief mourner was his wife Jeon Hye Jin and his two young sons reportedly flew back from the US overnight in order to make it for the funeral. I wish I could say something so shocking may end up changing South Korea’s image heavy and social chatter heavy culture but watching so many stars take this way out over the years makes me pessimistic anything will change.

This was hard to accept. I will miss his voice. T_T. May you find rest and peace, LSK away from this ruthless world.
I think I see Kim Dong Wook - so soon after his wedding, how sad.
This may be an unpopular opinion but I really wish people would not post these photos. Jeon Hye Jin and her kids don't deserve to have their grief splashed across the media.
It’s not an unpopular opinion at all. I really wish his wife and son’s pictures were not shown by the media. They have suffered enough. Let them live the rest of their lives in privacy. I pray they can heal and out this painful past behind them.
Also, I saw a segment where Han Ji Min and Lee Dong Wook were asked how they avoided controversy as stars and I thought it was so freaking spineless when they said 'just don't do what they tell you not to do'... I get that they're probably being honest but I wish they gave any indication that they didn't agree with the way Lee Sun Kyun was treated by the police (interrogating him for 19 hours straight?) and media.
I don't know how Han Jimin and Lee Dongwook can say anything about the police's treatment of Lee Sunkyun when their interview was from December 2021 when they were promoting their movie.
The more I learn about Korean society, outside of K-dramas, the more I’m left smh. It does not seem pleasant to actually do life there. The intense pressure and overwhelming scrutiny and, unlike the good dramas that come from there, how unwelcome it is for people to talk through and process their emotions and life seems actually unbearable.
Truly, may the people, media, govt of Korea who are cruel curb their ways. Korea already sits in a delicate bubble of preservation for so many reasons, they should keep up what’s good and weed out what’s bad before it is really too late.
May his family be comforted during this time.
Highest suicide rate in the developed world and lowest birth rate tell the story of the culture's harshness. Those little boys' lives are shattered forever. I wonder how many more lives it will take before anyone starts to question the logic behind Korea's horrific drinking culture vs. how it treats drug use.
I'm inclined to think LSK is a victim of improper investigation from authorities and malicious public attention. The former SK president even got on Facebook to criticize the police investigation in his case. Perhaps Moon Jae In as a leading politician of the current opposition party, had some political implication of power abuse in LSK's drug case? Even he spoke up about LSK's case. That's very unusual. Also, I was surprised to find out an audio conversation between LSK and the bar hostess posted in Weibo hot search. The conversation was about 30 minutes long and I'm not interested in listening to since I consider that's supposed to be private and shouldn't be disclosed to public while LSK's case was still under investigation, not brought to court yet. But how was that even released to the public circulating around even on gossipy Chinese SM?
I usually don't buy into conspiracy theories. But the whole mishap had evolved so fast like a train wreck from unconfirmed drug abuse allegations and infidelity to such a tragic turn of financial fallout and his death is just unfathomable and appears....fishy.
Sadly nothing will change. Just look at the way the medias violated Jeon Hyejin’s and LSK’s family to have a private funeral procession. The medias’ audacity to reveal LSK’s last note to his wife. The way the Incheon police dept wiggled their way out and practically washed their hands off, perhaps unrelated but the head of the dept just got promoted days ago. Sigh… LSK will not be the last for sure. So sad.
Another thing that’s really mind boggling, how the he££ Hwang Ha Na & Han Soe Hee scoot free from this scandal. Their names were mentioned earlier along with GD. And it’s not their first time being embroiled in celebs’ drugs scandals. At this rate all SoKor celebs better run for their lives once they hear these two’s names.
I think the fact that Lee Sun Kyun had such a clean image before all this really hurt him in the end. It wouldn't have surprised anybody to hear that GD and TOP did casual drugs. Han Seo Hee is apparently very rich and Hwang Hana is the extramarital affair daughter of a chaebol so the rules don't really apply to them.
Didn't they say it was a private funeral? Look at the cameras?
I am already devastated still yet it made me feel even worse his 2 children were filmed. As a parent I am absolutely wrecked seeing the oldest son having to be amongst the adults right at the front. It would be awful enough without this media intrusion still. His poor, poor family.
Koala, i don't think that it's a good thing release this photos. No one of them wanted to be filmed
How devastating it must be for his sons ? It reminds me of William and Harry back then . I can't even imagine the pain and how it will affect them forever . I understand that SKorea has a tolerance zero in terms of drugs , but this is too much . Why they seem to care less about sexual assault, bullying, heavy drinking culture which kills more people than drugs do, corrupt politicians, and what i hate the most in the world : abuse, violence,...toward children . I don't care if a celebrity takes drugs as long as she isn't a dealer and doesn't harm anyone . It's her private life . See Matthew Perry . Yes, knowing how it works LSK shouldn't have do what he did but sometimes "everybody hurts " REM song that i'm listening . And couldn't make it through . He will no be still standing as Elton John ! In a few days his death will be in the past, the life will go on until the next death ! RIP LSK .
This is heartbreaking. Such a great actor. I did not know him or his family personally, but no one deserves what he and his family had to endure. I pray for his family and will take a break away from Kdramas unless it is to watch one of LSK's dramas.
