So I don’t think these folks are virtue signaling or trying to look good but I do think the end result will still never feel satisfactory or get justice for the wronged. South Korea top director Bong Joon Ho of Parasite and many more award winning movie fame held a press conference accompanied by other industry veterans in the acting, directing, and producing fields to publicly demand a formal investigation into the police and media mishandling of Lee Seon Kyun‘s case. They allege the police and media either intentionally or incompetently mishandled the deceased Lee Seon Kyun’s drug use and blackmail allegations which then became public fodder for outrage and castigation of him. It undoubtedly led to the events including firing from movies and loss of CF campaigns all of which involve steep financial penalties. These industry veterans have formed an organization called Association of Solidarity of Cultural Artists and will use this organization going forward to protect the rights of public figures.

If this is a way to protect the industry and fight for justice against people behind keyboards, the media, etc...I approve.
It's going to be a hard fight unless they have more power than the figures behind the fueling of the rumours.
I support this 100%. After losing so many artists and actors to suicide, enough is enough. Something needs to change. It doesn’t have to be this way, and so I hope this is a constructive way to create change in the industry.
I hope things will change. At least some people are trying to do something. I'm still pondering if I should watch much praised My Mister. I missed all the Kdrama including this one too during a hiatus. It doesn't feel good knowing something horrendous happened to the deceased ML.
The man was a serial cheater who got his affairs found out. And he decided to off himself instead of doing the responsible thing to and for his family. I would feel more sympathy if he didn't do anything wrong. I think this is just the old boys club closing ranks and trying to protect some of its questionable members from being found out.
The world would be a better place if people would focus on their own lives instead of passing judgment on complete strangers.
What about the blackmailers? They shouldn’t be charged because he was already a cheater?? Sure, he cheated, wrong to his fam, but doesn’t cheating happen everyday to ordinary people who we all probably know one or two? Still not a crime in most countries either. Only difference here is, he’s a public figure people can force judgment on without getting in trouble. You can’t deny how the media treated him wasn’t right. Step into his shoes, bet you’d have the same reaction he did. Sometimes people forget, they don’t walk in other people’s shoes. Wait until it’s actually your turn then you’ll realize damn I should have shut up about it.
Someone is casting stones.
@Shelley, you talked as if he had cheated you. LOL. Don't speak for his wife!
His personal life is not your business or anyone else except his family. He was an actor, cheater or not - this has nothing to do with you.
Judging by your comment i can say that you don't even know a clear info about his case. It wasn't just a "cheating" but blackmail including drugs case, 3 months hate and a lot of pressure from police and media, plus interrogation for 19 hours without any proof.
Looking at that you wrote I think again that "old boys club" does the right thing.
@Shelley
Your point on possibility of old boys club trying to protect themselves from being found out is probable.
@Shelly
Wow. Infedelity is nobody's businees except of his wife and family.
And you must be an angel whom is so pure, so righteous that you can moral policing others.
Everyone deserves a second chance esp in his case, a trangression that hurt no one except his family. Everyone deserves human rights that is privacy.
Next time you make mistake, I hope someone would broadcast for the world to judge. But then I guess you have no worry since you sound so perfect and pure.
People getting heated up just because I don't support or condone cheating and cheaters. Lol. If he hadn't gone to that brothel and became its regular and VIP customer in case you all conveniently forgot then none of this would have happened at all. He would still have been an alive upstanding member of the 'old boys club'. But he chose to follow his wayward little head and found out it has consequences and then decided not to confront it and his mistakes. Just one wrong decision after another.
Nobody's condoning cheating, but if seems you're condoning public smearing campaigns and forcing people to end themselves just so that your ego is satisfied. Despicable.
I think you should stop with this type of comment. It’s degrading, and it reflects not the person you commented on but the person you are. Cheating is wrong, but it does it condone what the public, police, media did to him.
There are so many points that your reasoning is flawed. Your comment sounds very biased, judgmental, unkind, and does not bring anything useful or positive to the table. I suggest you comment wiser, or refrain commenting on the subject at all.
Because they look very immature.
@Shelley, wow! I hope you can repeat the same argument against yourself when ppl find your mistakes and broadcast to the public out loud. Unless you're a perfect saint but I'm pretty sure you're NOT! LOL
@Shelley THIS! LSK’s been working in the industry for what 20 yrs? He was no newbie idol who didn’t know what he was getting himself into. The entertainment industry mixed with brothels, drugs will bring out the worst in people. There’s no way he didn’t know greedy people with no moral compass would target him. Yet he chose to frequent this brothel, all the while doing CFs with his wife, portray the clean, loving family man image. Wrong decisions, one after another.
The Police should stop at investigating drug crimes like it was the worst thing in the worl and let sexual crimes not punished.
19 hours of examination for one time he would have taken drugs when the report said he wasn't an addict was completely wrong. It's not normal. The fact the examination was made public when it was a private matter was wrong too.
The man used brothels for f's sake. Such a respectable establishment for a married man who made CF money off his supposed loving husband and family man image, ain't it? Lol. And being such a regular and VIP customer at that, did he get special privileges? Did he get the pick of new girls? Were none of the girls minors? Or where they victims of human trafficking? Was it all consensual or were some girls drugged into submission so that they could satisfy VIP customers like him? So yeah, I'm no oppa apologist who choose to see him as a saint done wrong by the media. He's the despicable one.
Even more impressive. The entitlement to condemn him just because your imagination running wild.
Aah yes! Its hilarious how ur running away with this wild fictional tale in which he's progressed from being a cheater to now a p*dophile rapist! All the ironclad ~facts~ you're barking were also pretty strategically released by the cops when they couldn't pin him for drug charges after multiple tests and sensationalised by clickbait gossip rags for clowns like u to spread around and feel righteous over lol
Mind you, most of the stuff about him you're spouting is based on twisted statements of the """brothel""" madams who weren't actually 2 year old infants but grown women blackmailing him out of greed.
The guy is dead. None of us have the actual facts about what went down because a free and fair trial was not allowed to happen. Get off your deluded high horse and get some help
I think you should heed my suggestion above; hence, refrain from commenting on the subject. Your comment on possible scenarios sounds like you’re on drugs yourself.
If the deceased was alive, you could have been sued for defamation by speculation. Why do you think you have the right to condemn them with your imagined scenarios when you won’t ever know the truth? And it’s none of your business, really.
Are you sure you’re not one of those netizens or media that took part in the incident? Let’s hope you’re not.
LSK was a criminal
I think his friends are doing Hard work cleaning his image and reputation portraying him as innocent and as a victim
It's clear for me they're doing this because they commited crimes too and trying to stop the Police and The press of going further on them by being seeing as victims and get The General public's compassion
I see it in my country all The time
This! People here seem to think he was having tea with the women in the brothels. Lol. And brothels being illegal in SK, of course they adhere to a code of ethics where the women are all of age, consenting adults who make a lot of money from this profession. Lol. If you believe that, here's a bridge I want to sell you. Lol. Men like him contribute to the exploitation and abuse of women. And just because boohoo, he wasn't man enough to fix his mistakes he suddenly becomes this saintly victim the oppa apologists coddle and protect. Weak women support weak men.
@Shelley
THIS! “Men like him contribute to the exploitation and abuse of women.” “Weak women support weak men.” So very well said!
