When it was announced early last year that C-ent was remaking the critically acclaimed K-drama My Ahjusshi (My Mister) I was one of the many who asked “why?” since the OG was still relatively recent and also pretty much perfect. But what a difference context and situation changing makes, with the death of My Ahjusshi male lead Lee Seon Kyun the drama becomes a bittersweet watch and rife with even more emotional beyond just the story onscreen. So perhaps the C-version titled Loving Strangers can have it’s own reason to exit and space to breath a different enactment of the story on the small screen. Veteran leading man Mark Chao and awarding winning young movie and drama actress Zhang Zi Feng were spotted filming this week for the drama and comparing them to the OG leads is actually not all that jarring.
There are weird casting choices and this one is weird from both the leads itself…
Well this is an interesting pairing, setting aside the age difference at least I can…
I swear I just wrote about Song Joong Ki having his first baby and then…
At the end of the day, the core of any good drama remains the Story,…
If I didn't know this drama was a romance set in space and done K-drama…
If Wang Xing Yue ever needs extra money he can be a professional dubber for…

This drama will not be easy for me to watch....But I like both leads...Will decide when it airs...
Awe, that last scene was the only scene that he smile happily. What a bittersweet ending. Although I believe staying w/ his wife was within character, I wish he would chose to separate from his wife in the Chinese version, she was too cruel.
This drama was overall very depressing, I’m surprised I made it for all eps. I just know that the Chinese will have more ep and be water down.
There is no mention of the brothers, they are such an integral part of the drama. If this is a remake, it would be a travesty to leave them out. I would really be excited for this if they get some good ajusshi actors for these roles.
I tried rewatching My Ajusshi and somehow it's even better given the context but sadder. It will not be easy matching up to LSK's acting, he was phenomenol but Mark Chao is the closest you can get someone to look like him. I'm not feeling Zhang Zi Feng though. Hopefully this is a good remake but I doubt it will ever match up to the original now that LSK has made Park Dong Hoon immortal.
My Ajusshi is my favourite drama of all the time, the only drama I can rewatch many times over and over again.
I watched it again recently in the wake of Lee Seon Kyun's passing and boy, it hit so differently this time, so much more poignant. LSK was too good in My Ajusshi that I feel like Park Dong Hoon is actually the one departing this world.
I don't hold that much hope for the remake but if there's anything, I hope the C-remake will do justice to the OG. It's not going to be an easy feat given that the OG is close to perfection but in good hands, we can actually have something wonderful to cherish.
Like all cdramas that are remakes this one will fall short.
I think so too. Competent actors aren't enough to make good dramas. C-ent just lacks good script writers and directors.
It's more like they have to write according to the source materials they acquired, the super 30+ length episodes, their government's restrictions, and star's demand(we hear things about how stars want certain things change before they take the drama). In the end, we get drama that's heavily on the CGI, Great costume/makeup/hair dos, beautiful location... but the writing and flow of the story is all over the place.
Yup! Dazzling setting and costumes may be appealing at the beginning when watching Cdrama the first time. But soon that awesome visual impact would be encroached upon by bad writing and poor directing. Boring acting doesn't help at all and good actors can't save either.
Thanks to LSK's death, I hold back from watching My Mister. I've heard about good reviews and it's in a long list of K dramas I missed during my hiatus from ent. The whole meaning of entertainment would be lost knowing the ML passed away due to the death uncalled for. Perhaps I'll check the Chinese version although I'll keep my expectation very low over the quality.
You should grit your teeth and watch it... fantastic, and yes sad but also hopeful. It was LSKs best and he will never be forgotten... always My Mister RIP
Truly sad! Perhaps I'll give a shot sometime in the future but not now while the news of his death just sent a shock wave to my head not long ago. I got to know him not through drama but through his critically acclaimed and award-winning movie, Parasite.
