MBC Fri-Sat Thriller Revenge Drama Wonderful World with Kim Nam Joo and Cha Eun Woo Doubles in Ratings Through 9-episodes Aired So Far

My hats off to the MBC Fri-Sat drama Wonderful World for being a slow and sure storyteller and getting the recognition. The drama debuted with 5% ratings and the most recent episode 11 got over 11%, doubling the ratings with even room for further growth. Kim Nam Joo is a veteran actress with a track record of good drama selection but Cha Eun Woo has been coasting on good looks with improvement albeit incremental. Seeing this drama do well on its own merits makes me happy for the cast and crew especially the positive reviews for Cha Eun Woo who stepped outside his perfect male lead character and plays a rough and tumble man with a secret. The drama is slated for 14 episodes so get onboard if this revenge and mystery thriller is your jam.

  • I already said in a previous comment that some dramas did or are doing well in ratings in the week end , Flex X cop was one of them also is Wonderful world but are shadowed by the Blockbuster QOT, the story is rather simple and focus more about the emotions felt by persons entwited after the death of a child . Kim Nam Joo doesn't have to speek much, her eyes convey all the turmoil she feels . She is as good as she was in Misty ( smexy Ji Jin Hee) The surprise comes from CEW who i found always Stiff and emotionless ,but thanks to a veteran actors he is conveying through his stare finally emotions . Hope that he will continue to do more serious roles before returning to rom com in which is seems unconfortable

    • CEW truly shines when acting in non romance drama alongside senior actors. Good for him! I’m excited for his development next, he should do this more often

      • Agreed, he was actually very good in Island and then horrible again in the dog drama(his last drama)… but here again he is good and does everything very acceptable/believable.

    • I used to be indifferent to CEW. He just appeared wooden to me. I'm not the one for his looks either. I know NOTHING about Kim Nam Joo. On top of that, I'm not so interested in family-focused dramas with a lot of emphasis on bonding and emotions the like. Although I'm a fan of thriller/mystery, I found it less intriguing when too much coverage of daily mundane takes away intensity of suspension. I've been watching some similar dramas, old and new with this type of tropes. Examples include When the Camellia Blooms, Dr. Slump, and Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol that I just started to watch. These dramas all have similar weakness that I just mentioned. Dr. Slump is among the worst.

I'll take Koala's words again and give a shot to this one. Now my plate is too full to take any crap. I've been there with C drama. LOL.

      • @Somebody ,all the dramas you named in your comment were boring , not interesting for me , i dropped all of them . I don't think that Wonderful world will be your cup of tea as the story is very simple and there is no suspense, at least for me . But Kim nam joo is a good actress that i liked after watching Misty . I think that When the Camellia Blooms is the only GHJ's drama that i couldn't watch !

      • @cahill, I patiently finished the Camellia Blooms just for GHJ. Kang Ha Neul was an unbearably noisy bumpkin in the series. LOL. The suspension part of that drama was pretty lame and the rest of the plot was too draggy. I'm like forever at ep 15 of Dr. Slump without much desire to finish even one more ep left. LMAO. Although Do Sol La isn't my cup of tea either, the cast made me laugh each ep and Lee Jae Wook is my new found love. So I keep watching. LOL.

I'm really fully occupied off work with all the waiting list on my plate. Although there were disappointments in Kdrama from time to time, it's way more gratifying by miles to explore recommendations from K fans than C fans. For example, I used to dislike Go Ara a lot in Hwarang but she is a delight to watch in Do Sol La. She is so convincing as a piano teacher and her bubbly silly character along with other funny cast is the major source of laughter. Quite a few K actors have changed my perceptions about them years later after my break. She is among them. Suzy and Junho have totally transformed. Park Shin Hye too. She used to be unwatchable for me most of the time. They demonstrated huge improvement in acting and became likeable to me. This hasn't happened in Cdrama yet. I found most of C popular actors stagnate in acting for years with same old same old stale images on screen. Cdrama is hopeless. Even I did check out C dramas from time to time, it's almost a waste of time. I can't help making comparison since I spent the pandemic period from 2020 to early 2023 just watching C dramas only. C drama is an easy watch for me due to language. It's fair for me to come to this conclusion.

    • Cha Eun Woo is a eye candy for many. I like watching his face but I dont find his looks very long lasting for me. Thus if his acting is wooden, I get bored after a while. I never finish any of his romance dramas. But him as a Priest Johan was quite enjoyable. He was not the main lead, I feel that take the pressure of his shoulder, he was clearly very relaxed in the role.
I am keen to watch this after the drama ends...Binge watch.

  • Maybe CEW needs to choose thriller/crime/legal dramas that requires him to act alongside with veteran actors. Acting with veteran actors can help him to emote and act better since they are good at facial expressions and non-verbal communication.

He should stop doing romcom (for now), unless he is acting along with someone more senior than him (not as his FL) but who is veteran.

  • CEW should stop at least for a while with the romance dramas and focus more on these type of dramas that suit him better.

  • The best version of actor CEW is the one not in romance dramas. He appears very uncomfortable, stiif, uninspired in that genre. Agree with the other comments that he should explore supporting roles with great senior actors/actresses in non-romance dramas so he can hone his acting skills more. He has shown improvement in this drama.

    • So true , with the same cursus the pretty one will always win . There are so much talented actors who can't achieve to be cast as a lead because of the looks .
