So while all the K-drama attention this spring started on Queen of Tears and after it ended moved to Lovely Runner, we now have the first buzzy hit of the start of summer. Small cable network drama Crash premiered to around 2% ratings in mid-May and 2/3rds through its run has more than doubled to 5.870%. It’s a brisk 12-episodes so four more left but word of mouth has been strong as reflected by the steadily increasing ratings, and even more impressive is that Crash is now the second highest rated drama on ENA after Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Now it’s nowhere near breaking that rating or even getting close but Crash felt like there was zero talk, buzz, or promotion when it premiered and is simply gaining traction because it’s a good drama. The stars are Lee Min Ki, Kwak Sun Young, and Heo Sung Tae with the story set in the traffic investigation unit of the police force. The vibe I get from the drama stills is very Train with all the blues and whites contrast with the warm oranges and beige. I’m planning to check this out now so sharing an underdog success story for those interested.

The drama is actually good and I'm happy it's doing well and no it's not similar to train tho
It's a fun drama but nothing extraordinary.
An easy watch with good actors !
My father likes action with comedy and tried watching this but because of how skinny the leading lady was he was turned off by watching. His reason was that the size she is seems unrealistic to be kicking but with men twice her size. But for me she seemed too anorexic and made me concerned. I loved her in Moving and her other projects though so not throwing hate. The show is unique though but traffic violations seems such a weird topic to make a show of. A bit cartoonish but not bad. I decided to wait till it’s finished and then watch.
I really like kwak sun young too and seeing how thin she was actually scared me, I hope she's alright tho
Thrillers does help to bring back the ratings for ENA!
Good to see that dramas that are low on buzz rise through the ratings. Hope to see more of such dramas. Samdari did it, and now Crash.
I need to check it out. I just wish Lee Min Ki would choose a sexy role soon. Flower Boy Band just left it's imprint. Loved him in Because This Is My First Life and other dramas he's been in, but it would be nice to see him in something that can showcase a sexy side of him. Kim Jae Wook in Death's Game was everything. It was just a return to his best form as far as I'm concerned. Producers should be throwing scripts at him with how sizzling he was in that drama. I would love to see Lee Minki in an intense drama where he's styled to perfection. No poodle bowl cuts please. Oh My Ladylord had me seriously upset. How can you pair him with Nana and do that to his hair.
Oh my ladylord was so annoying tbh. It's funny you mention flower boy band cos I actually rewatched it just yesterday. I saw a kbs drama special called nara's rain and the male lead was the bass guitarist in flower boy band so I rewatched some episodes of fbb. Lee min ki in eyeliner was everything by the way
He truly was. I couldn't even finish the drama. Lee Hyun Jae who played the drummer was the other band member that had my attention. I believe he first caught my eye on Sketchbook when he was the drummer for the K-Indie band Mate who made a guest appearance on that show.
I hope that more people get to watch Crash for 2 good reasons: integrity and following safety rules. It's fast-paced and I just like the fact that it's well-written and the lead actors portrayed their characters to perfection. Although it's a low-budgeted show (not available on Netflix, no English subtitles on the promotional reels), the quality of the the work from the director, scriptwriter and actors are not in any way compromised. I was pleasantly surprised of how the script was well written and how the director skillfully executed each scene. This series is worth watching and re-watching!
Your right and you learn a lot about their korean law so thats why its really popurality in korea.
This is produced by Taxi Driver PD so I’m not surprised
Good for them. ENA is really turning out to be a surprise dark horse when it comes to ratings.
Does anyone else remember OCN? It feels a bit like ENA is picking up where OCN left off. OCN used to air genre dramas before they stopped airing dramas in (I think) 2021.
OCN was great, wonder why they stopped producing dramas even though they were doing decently well, not as good as TVN or JTBC but probably better than TV Chosun or Channel A. They even got heavyweights like Han Suk Kyu in one of their shows. The Uncanny Encounter was a double digit hit but IIRC they gave the second season to TVN. Love the idea of a genre TV channel, and OCN produced so many good shows, I particularly loved Strangers from Hell and The Guest.
OCN was in the same group as TVN and they kinda fusionned I think. The Uncanny Counter 2 was released on TVN. The same for Player that started this week.
